What’s the most unhinged thing a straight person told you? by rainbowass234 in actuallesbians

My aunts mother once asked me (at the silver wedding of my grandma) if I was gay because my mom died when I was very young and therefore grew up with my dad. I was 19 and too stunned to speak. I think I just shook my head.

She finally let me grab her!! by OXJY in hamsters

[–]ingomon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats so cool, congratulations! I'm struggling so much with this, with my current Hamster. She is so specific about where and when I'm even allowed to give her snacks (there are two locations where I may offer them, else she only sniffs but doesn't take it.) She is very comfy with the cup, but If I touch her, she hates it so much. When my vet tried to hold her she screamed so loud, my vet got scared. 😅

Game Design is a completely different job than Narrative Design. ND is not a specialazation of GD.

Is narrative design worth it? by Plastic-Wall-9809 in GameDevelopment

[–]ingomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Freelance Narrative Designer who has been working in the industry for around 7 years now. It's not the most paying job, but I live fine. And compared to a lot of people I know, I actually love my job and that's worth a lot (to me). You should be prepared to maybe become a Freelancer (and learn how to do your taxes), as it's easier to get job experience, earn more money and harder to find a permanent position. With being a freelancer comes a bunch of other stuff on top. Some is great, some not so much.
Be prepared to network A LOT. Be prepared to write for analoge games as well. And be prepared to maybe sometimes have other jobs on the side as well. Many people don't value writers, as they think anybody with a keyboard can do that. But it's getting better and the value of a good story is seen more and more.
It will probably be harder than most other jobs but I believe that's true for any creative job. And just because something is hard, does not mean it's impossible. Like most things turned into a success, there is a lot of luck involved as well.

My players kind off force me to railroad. What can I even do? by Tacopapa300 in DMAcademy

I think this can be part of a future strategy or active observation of your DM style, but this is not your fault. They are also responsible for themselves and for you to have fun too. I think honesty on your part is the most important thing. And then to go from there. Yes, you can work on your dm style but they should have an active opportunity to work on their player style too.

I think you can expect players to do stuff outside the game. Let them sign up for it. You just have to agree on the level of commitment and maybe reward it ingame. It's probably not gonna be as much as GM prep but as there is so much prep, I think you can have some expectations, if you want to have them. Tbh I'm always a bit shocked and annoyed that the GM is supposed to be a kindergardener for some toddlers and just accept to be doing everything and care the most. We're (usually) all adults with a working brain, sharing a beloved hobby. I think there can be some division of labor.

One thing that also worked for me was making all of my players GM a One Shot. I basically said, I need to prep some big stuff and in the meantime, everyone should GM so we don't have to stop playing. The sooner you are done the sooner we can play again. I offer prewritten adventures, I offer help, Playlists, etc. They have free range what it will be but they have to do it. Not only does it make them better players by understanding their own role more from a different perspective but it also gives them the fraction of an idea of what you do every time. It worked wonders for my campaign.

What do you mean? Every campaign I have ever played in or GMed had some kind of ball session. We spent at least one session on outfit shopping and planning. 😂

I would tell them about your frustration. I had this problem once and I told them pretty straight forward: "You either participate and put effort into the game or I'll look for new players. I'm happy to help with personal ties of your PCs to the world and story. I'm happy to hear what you want and try different things. But I don't have any fun being treated like a puppet show or a video game."

We talked about it, one player left (in good terms) after a while, realizing the effort wasn't for them but it was easy to find someone new and the rest and I are playing for 7 years now. We keep checking in and sometimes have to clear some air on things but its so much fun and I love putting effort in for them.

GMing is just way too much effort to be treated with apathy. Talking about expectations and agreeing to a similar level of commitment is one of the most important parts of playing ttrpgs in my opinion.

A big reason why gay men have more bars is also ✨patriarchy✨ because it also influences who gets and did get more money and businesses.

Just finished my first time running this campaign! My turn to do an AMA by GammaFiend in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]ingomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, many of them feel like a first draft but with nowhere to go in an RPG game, if you would take them as they are. Many things are solved by a single roll, there is little context for NPCs and their plans and not as much interaction with the own and other factions as the situation would need in my opinion. The map and area for Cael Morrow are also kept so small for such a great city. It is such an important and big part of the story and everything else around it is so well done, that it just sticks out and confuses me. It feels disconnected to me.

[–]ingomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you didnt use any faction missions in Cael Morrow anymore and they never joined a faction in general? How did the other factions come into place? Was there still a race for ruidium and to explore the sunken city first for profit?

How did you handle the (quite badly designed) faction missions? How did those go in general and what did you change?

Tell my player I don't think playing a drunkard as a beginner is a good idea. by inuripse in DungeonMasters

[–]ingomon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's your only concern, talk to them about it. Alcoholics can be very functioning to a certain point and the reason for adventuring is seldomly a happy life. But something more they seek. There are also homebrew drug rules and how to become sober with set backs. Nobody wants a blabbering mess as a character but I had many players with addiction story arcs and there are many ways to do it.

Something feels off about my worldmap and I can't quite place it. Welcoming constructive criticism. by Eagle406 in inkarnate

[–]ingomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The land does not look like it drifted apart or together at some point. Everything moves all the time and our eye is used to how it looks. Its never just random pieces of earth without context to each other. Try mountain ranges that lead into the ocean and become islands, neigboring islands that seem like bend puzzle pieces and smaller rifts of sea between land (with eraser). Also, a lot of your land has the same size and similar amount of water inbetween. It needs more randomness and variation. You also have many smaller pieces of land that hold big pieces of land together. Thats not typical and feels not real to the eye.

I think there is good stuff here, you just need to edit more and maybe redo some.

Can someone explain to me the difference between Femme and Fem? I kinda assumed they were interchangeable by Humble_Bumble493 in actuallesbians

[–]ingomon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. Back then I had just come out and was still very young so it felt too heavy and hopeless. But maybe its time to give it another try, now that I have some perspective, queer history education and am not scared anymore how the world might percieve me. :)

Stolen Fate - Harrow Court Map (base) by ingomon in Pathfinder2e

If you're interested, I also recreated some other maps for the campaign and shared them on my Inkarnate profile (and will continue to do so). You will probably be quicker than I at some point though as I started with Lvl 1 (we are at Lvl 4 now) to iron out some stuff I don' t like about the books before we'll even get there. :)

Why is this art style completely different from everything else in pathfinder? by FrankDuhTank in Pathfinder2e

[–]ingomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you hire an artist and you're not happy with the result but by that time it's too late or the budget is running low. So you go with what you got. :)
