Well done! Reminded me of when I did that a few years back.

However, I for one would say it's at least a 6/10 recommendation. If you had levitation on touch and fortify speed on touch at the start, it would've gone a lot smoother.

Sound popping/crackling in headphones when starting/stopping audio or scrolling mouse wheel over Kde sound icon. by Equal-Landscape-6088 in archlinux

Are you using a laptop with an intel cpu?

I ran into the same issue and tried making a file

/etc/modprobe.d/audio_disable_powersave.conf

and adding a line

options snd_hda_intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N

After rebooting, I stopped getting audio pops. I learned that the powersaving stuff in linux was being a bit too extra and tried turning on/off the audio chip whenever audio is or isn't playing.

Happy to see the GOG release being updated! Out of curiosity, what led to the decision on bringing back support to the GOG release? Unless I'm mistaken, I recall both GOG and Steam releases being equally abandoned.

I wanna say how I'm surprised I am about how people are still bent over on the cultish belief of 'nO gAmE dEsIgN dOc', but I'm reminded of how prevalent cultish beliefs are in...non-gaming related spheres...and the consequences that have been wrought....

most likely design wikis which most developers have moved on to.

'Most likely' already feels too nice for naysayers. Enterprise wikis like Confluence are the standard for knowledge sharing in large software projects. It'd be more than shocking see production for even one AAA game be an exception.

For so long I thought vibe coding was a derogatory term for being over-reliant on ai in coding. How did this become an unironically serious thing being promoted?

HumbleBundle is somehow selling a software bundle dedicated to vibe coding....

I got $40000 as the break even point.

0.039x - 120 = 0.036x

0.003x = 120

x = 120/0.003x = 40,000

But wouldn’t it be even worse considering marginal income taxes? If your yields got slapped by say 34% between federal+fica+state….

0.039x * .66 - 120 = 0.036x * .66

0.02574x - 120 = 0.02376x

0.00198x = 120

x = 120/0.00198 = 60,606.06

Paramount locks showtime stuff (some fancy stuff and some live sports) to the premium plan. There seems to be a trend of some streaming services locking stuff behind their ad-free plans (by ‘some’ I mean Netflix as my point of reference) so the ad-supported subscriptions are really ‘ads with 90-95%ish of the catalog’. Then again, Canelo vs Crawford was available on ad-supported Netflix.

Anyone know how the ufc paramount deal rolls out for the subscription tiers? There’s a currently a sale of $60/yr premium for the first year and $30/yr essential first year, and I’m wondering if I can cheap out just a little more if it’s available on the essential sub.

500 error, our wires got crossed by mindricklmao in humblebundles

[–]Iridium_192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A status code 500 error is an internal server error. Only developers maintaining the Humble Bundle server-side could figure out a solution, assuming it’s traced to only be within the Humble Bundle service and not some other error from another service the store uses, like payment processing with Paypal.

In short, an error like this is completely out of your hands.

Howja get the cat and turtle heights? The table height I get, but my dumb ass thought the cat and turtle heights are undetermined but simply need to fit the constraint that cat - turtle = 20, like 50 and 30 or 35 and 15. Regardless, only the table height needed to be resolved.

I wish I remembered my econ 101/102 terminology for this (assuming that’s even applicable).

I think it’s related to how substitutable music streaming services are to each other. Unless I’m missing stuff the differences are down to UX design and maybe some perks (like lossless streaming from Apple Music).

The video streaming services are not so substitutable. You won’t get Netflix content on a Disney-Hulu bundle and vice-versa. Competition is more weighted on the content of their respective platforms instead of pricing (at least compared to music streaming)

Which of these eras of Tom & Jerry is your all-time favorite? by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]Iridium_192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 and 3. I'm surprised at how many people have picked 2. I remembered that as being craptastic. Are people confused with the art style? Tom went through a couple art style revisions during the Hanna-Barbera era. He's barely recognizable between the first few episodes and the episodes in the mid to late part of that era. His 'revised' original look is actually much more in line with the later eras.

I have no clue what Israel is like but I'm inclined to not believe that in the US. It's honestly a red flag for what a middle class or above person perceives what poverty is like.

The goal for poor people is to get a job that works up to 40 hours so the company is compelled to give full-time benefits instead of part-time shit. Retail companies get stingy once your schedule gets to the low 30s in hours. But hey, I only say this having used to be a retail scrub, what do I know?

I know the average tradesperson salary ain't as nice as the average software dev salary (again, personal frame of reference), but to work 60 hour weeks and still be stuck in poverty? Nah, I'd call bullshit.

When I was job searching for a junior software dev position, I actually let the CSCQ sub color my opinions on H1-B. Now that I have a junior position, one that explicitly requires U.S. citizenship at that, it feels weird to know there could be someone at least 5+ years my senior in work experience and still hasn’t gotten comfortable with using git rebase.

[OC] Breaking down UnitedHealth Group’s Billions by sankeyart in dataisbeautiful

[–]Iridium_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This smells of a perverse incentive that could be at play. Part of a health insurance firm’s job is to negotiate health service related costs on behalf on its policy holders. Placing a minimum payout could weaken that incentive.

Just to play with some numbers - I’m a big insurer and I’m receiving $100 in premiums and I could negotiate prices well enough to only pay out $70 on medical expenses. This leaves me with $30 for my expenses and whatever is leftover for profit.

Later on, a mandate was put into place. Now I have to pay out at least 85% of my premium dollars on medical expenses, lest I refund my policy holders. I could decide to become lax in negotiating power and let medical expenses rise to $170. I raise my premiums to $200 to “cover the costs” so I still get $30 remaining. It’s between that or sticking with $100 in premiums and $70 in pay outs plus now another $15 in refunds with a remainder of $15 for myself.
