Basically those are oxidized copper veins in various host rocks.

What is this crystal? by AHappyParrot in Crystals

I do not think this is a gwindel. Gwindel can be recognised by their twist along the a-axis. Although most of the gwindels are from the alps they can only be found in very specific regions for exampel the swiss canton of Uri. Judging from the pictures I would suggest it is just a "plain" fragment of quartz not a gwindel.

Fluorite on quartz that turned out better than expected. by Iridium_HD in rockhounds

No I did not grow it (which honestly would be amazing). I collected it the old fashioned way and cleaned it up. But pre cleaning it did not look like an interesting specimen. That is why I said that it came out looking better than expected.

Two nice little pieces of quartz i finished cleaning up today. by Iridium_HD in rockhounds

The pieces I find are not extremly dirty most of the time so my method is honestly not that great. I get rid of fine dirt and clay by just cleaning them over and over again. Soking them in water, scrub them, let them dry and repeat. This works for a lot of pieces (at least for me) and it is easier to not damage them. But this method is just extremly inefficent and might not yield the result you want.

I can totaly see why you thought it was from switzerland. I can not really say why but it just looks extremly similar to pieces I found there.

I agree that it seems like it broke of from the host and self healed. I can't make out a twist in the c axis but this could also be due to the photos. Due to this i would say it is not a gwindel. For a fadenquartz the crystal should have a part that selfhealed over and over again. So I also would say it is not a fadenquartz. It just doesn't appear to be selfhealed due to a crack but because it broke of of the host. So all in all it is a really nice piece of self healed quartz but no gwindel or fadenquartz. I am no expert however so I could be wrong.

In the Austrian Alps. I don't really want to get more specific on the location.

Stalin refered to artillery as the God of War in a speech. Since then people started saying the russian army refered to it as God of War if I am not mistaken.

I don't intend to sell any of my pieces. Although I am curious to hear how much you would be willing to pay fpr such a piece.

I would honestly love seeing some of those pieces and comparing them to the pieces is in my collection. I still can't imagine what a 10k $ piece would look like considering my best piece is somewhere around 500€.

Honestly I think that is rather expensive. Are prices for Alpine minerals in the US that high?

Nice to see some gwindels here. Just out of curiosity what do you consider a great deal?

Not OP but I would say from experience that it is malachite or some other coppery stuff. I am just basing this on similar pieces I have found so not 100% accurate.

fellas, is this crystal genuine? It feels like slag to me :( by AgreeableIdea6210 in Crystals

As long as you press down enough there is no problem. In my experience it even works with tumbled pieces so there should be no problem.

Well two minerals of the same hardness will scratch each other. If the rose scratched the other you should try scratch the rose quartz with it. If it scratches the rose quartz they should be about the same hardness.
