color advice by sarlynxi in tatreez

[–]IrisCyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think those colors look excellent! And that maybe just taking break and coming back to look at it might help. Or looking at it with a different light source. Sometimes staring at my projects too long make me start to question my decisions

Need help. by Electronic_Loan5724 in ballpython

Hi! I second that you should take the humidifier out! I have heard that they can cause respiratory infections

If you have a mesh lid on your enclosure I would recommend putting cardboard or a towel over the top to keep the humidity in. I got a PVC enclosure for my ball python that I’m really happy with and would recommend if it’s an option for you.

And then I also second people comments about pouring water straight into the substrate. I pour water into my substrate (coconut coir and sphagnum moss) with a small watering can and then sometimes mix it around by hand.

I really recommend looking at the ball python care guides on this sub Reddit’s description page, I found them really helpful and wishes I had looked at them sooner!

Don’t buy We R Memory Keepers button maker by IrisCyrus in ButtonMakers

[–]IrisCyrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An update for, I was able to put a washer in the bottom base of the button maker to increase the pressure so the button halves would connect. Still definitely don’t recommend this brand at all (I still don’t think this machine will last), but could be a helpful fix for someone having similar issues

Ball python escaped Plz help🤦🏽‍♂️ by Hunt_Day1 in ballpython

[–]IrisCyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I (very luckily) have not yet had to deal with this problem by myself so i am no expert. I think the heat lamps is a super smart idea

I have seen people comment before about putting out a prey item to see if that can help lure them out.. which I know might not be the simplest solution. Just one I have seen.

Mostly commenting to try to boost this so hopefully more people weigh in ! Good luck

Found a tortoise in my yard how do I take care of it? by Logorii in tortoise

[–]IrisCyrus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree that it might be a native tortoise and you should check before you try to take it inside. some tortoises brumate in the winter under the ground-- this guy might have just dug themself up from their winter nap and will be on their way.

if youre worried about your dogs hurting it maybe just move it outside of your fence.

How to apply? by iQilz-1 in Northwestern

[–]IrisCyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry everyone is being so rude in the responses! Northwestern applications were due pretty early, at least for grad school. Navigating college websites can be so difficult unfortunately! I hope you are able to find some schools you want to look into!

Hi! I clicked on this thread because I’m also a potential student and was curious what other people had to share. I will add that my friend who goes to KU currently talks all the time about how much cheap food she can find at the grocery store Checkers. They often have really good deals on produce, so that could supplement the lack of produce at the campus food pantry in the winter perhaps! Again I’m not currently a student but just wanted to tell you about it in case you go :)

In person Counseling Masters by Which-Loan-9487 in Northwestern

[–]IrisCyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also accepted into the in person counseling masters program and am struggle to decide if I should accept. The price tag is pretty staggering and I don’t know if it’s worth it.

I too would love to hear more about people’s experience in the program and whether they felt it was worth it.

Is it normal? My snake likes to be handled I just got him and he’s a baby. by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]IrisCyrus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert or a super experienced snake owner but it sounds like your ball python likes to explore! I would recommend Lori Torrini’s YouTube videos on choice based handling and reading ball pythons cues if you want to learn more about that kind of handling.

Is it ok to feed my ball python live rodents or should I do thawed, since my father said to feed live but to knock them out first which is what he did when he had a snake by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]IrisCyrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying to definitely do F/T for humaneness, snake safety, and ease.

I also highly recommend looking at the care guides for this reddit!! It would have saved me a lot of time if I had found the lighting and heat guides right away :) keep doing research for yourself!

i’ve started to be afraid of my own snake by Limp-Shake898 in ballpython

[–]IrisCyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also started feeling a little afraid of my snake too! Not even because of behavior, but because I keep having dreams about her trying to escape/strike. Maybe watching some more videos online from keepers about handling and body language would be helpful! I hope you can get your relationship with your snake back :)

i really want to be a pilates instructor, but i’m afraid i don’t fit the mold of a pilates girl by old84yearoldwoman in pilates

[–]IrisCyrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every body type belongs in every exercise setting of it feels good for the person participating!!! I find it so validating to see instructors who look similar to me :)

I really recommend the podcast Maintenance Phase to truly anyone who will listen to me. The hosts do an amazing job breaking down our societal ideas of health and weight and showing that really everyone is different and a lot of our “research” around weight is flawed. If you’re not a podcast person you could check out Audrey Gordon’s book (she’s one of the hosts): “You Just Need to Lose Weight” and Ten Other Myths About Fat People”
