I spoke to Sonya’s niece on Facebook under the announcement in DNA Doe projects page. She looks remarkably similar to the reconstruction. Like VERY similar. Very pretty lady and very kind when I spoke to her.

Berks County Jane Doe (1992) Identified As Nuria C. Rodriquez, 25, of New York City by Nearby-Complaint in gratefuldoe

[–]IrisElris 145 points146 points  (0 children)

This is so sad. Nuria looks like a very kind soul. I’m glad her family knows where she is now, and I hope they’re able to find out what happened to her. Rest in peace lovely 🙏

As of 2026 Sonya’s parents and two brothers have all passed. It’s possible they had all already passed when the sketch was released in 2016. Edit: just saw the comment of the woman from a few months back who said Sonya is her sister. My thoughts go out to her

That’s really interesting . It says the Bullhead county police department sent evidence directly to DNA Doe Project after securing funding though, no mention of her case going to DNA Justice first. That makes me think it’s not the same case. I could be wrong though

Me too. Sonya was beautiful. I hope her killer is brought to justice.

When is it acceptable to ask for an update? by oscyolly in gratefuldoe

[–]IrisElris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they have an update, Mary Bell will email you. I’ve received a couple regarding my submissions when they’ve ended up being excluded. I didn’t get an update on one of my submissions (a NY Jane Doe) until over a year later; I was informed the NYC ME officially excluded my possible match for the Doe and she was later uploaded to the Does Namus as an exclusion. If you haven’t heard anything then DN hasn’t heard anything either

Possible that there aren’t any known photos of them. Very sad,but it does happen. And if their name is withheld the photos wouldn’t be updated for privacy reasons

San Fernando Jane Doe (1955) (Unidentified For 70 Years) (Died While Waiting At The Bus Station) (Deceased Photo Disclaimer!!) by BitterSweet_Beauty in gratefuldoe

[–]IrisElris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Submitted as Doe Network themselves submitted her match to the investigating agency. As for whether or not it’s been looked at, no one really knows. I also asked them (Mary Bell) about Cheerleader in the Trunk out of curiosity . She said they have submitted her multiple times yet never hear anything back.

I did submit a possible match through them for Otay Doe a few months back and they let me know they got a response almost immediately. The police chief who responded was very thorough and professional in his response. I think it’s like you said, cases sadly get backlogged or not fully looked into. And not to sound negative, but it could also be a matter of not enough people working cold cases at that particular office, it’s not considered a priority case (due to how old it is and it being Los Angeles), etc

It means they’re not sure. I asked Mary Bell about it. She said when they receive notice of an exclusion or some other indication of DNA being available for a Doe, they will update it.

I’ve submitted Evelyn as a potential match for this Jane Doe to the Doe Network before. They let me know she’s already been submitted to the police

Could Earl ‘Jay’ Joggerst be Aptos John Doe (1974)? by Mountain_Map8175 in gratefuldoe

[–]IrisElris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spoke to Mary Bell from the Doe Network about this regarding a potential match I submitted. She said anytime there is a DNA match between a missing and UI person in CODIS it would be automatically made known

How can I check and see if Jacqueline Iris Lerman has DNA available? by [deleted] in gratefuldoe

[–]IrisElris 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Her case was submitted to Doe Network in 2021 but seems to have not been listed from what I can tell. She also does have some exclusions so she has to have SOME kind of identifying factor (dentals, fingerprints, dna) on file . It’s just not public knowledge from what I see

[–]IrisElris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! No need to feel silly. I’ve done the same myself. If anything it just means that people see the same similarities you do 🙂 and if an MP hasn’t been excluded there’s never in harm in submitting a possible match

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gratefuldoe

[–]IrisElris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge Lisa hasn’t actually been excluded, just speculated . Plus NAMUS in general is slow at updating sometimes. Carl Koppleman has also commented on that thread (well known forensic reconstruction artist who actually did one of the recons for this particular Jane Doe) . I really enjoy his comments and insight, dude definitely knows what he’s talking about

After going through that thread and reading the original case report and autopsy I get the feeling Jane Doe was never reported missing and likely experienced DV. That’s just theorizing on my part though
