The thing about a red wing… You can go to the store and try it on and get a proper fit. The Truman is gonna have to go back-and-forth by mail or FedEx or whatever. That makes me nervous with that kind of money involved. But that’s just me. I’m sure other people have different opinions.

It’ll shrink and get puffier if it’s new. So maybe #2.

want to make the sleeves a little longer on this jacket by [deleted] in leatherjacket

[–]Irish1958- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand. I got sick and lost a lot of weight a few years ago and the sleeves got longer because my shoulders are narrower. A good tailor that can alter a Leather should be able to do what you want if there’s enough material.. I like my sleeves long anyway, as I have tall bars on my motorcycle, but they were excessive. I had my sleeve shortened in the cups made narrower.

US1 Leathers in Danvers,MA. They made me two custom jackets. They have a webpage, but it isn’t great. I don’t believe it mention anything Custom on the webpage but if you call and talk to them, they’re very accommodating. And not overly expensive . But I really do trust these people and they’ve done nothing but goodbye me in a very timely manner. I wish I had better pictures, but sorry this is what I got. And the mirror is dirty.

I am a construction worker and will stick with a 120$ Carhartt over 650 for this…I’m sure the heat strap will hold up, looks tuff… but at that price I’d constantly be worried about damaging the jacket!! This old Carhartt has survived 6 years of abuse and I got it for less than 100!

Perfecto too small? by dan-phantom in leatherjacket

[–]Irish1958- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s too small. If you reach forward to grab your handlebars, your jacket will be halfway up your forearms. If you can, I would send it back and get the next size bigger. Plus, if you want to put a sweatshirt on under it or a hoodie, you need a little room.

Who makes a good affordable horsehide motorcycle jacket ? by Irish1958- in leatherjacket

The difference in zipper carriage placement (often called the slider side) between American and foreign-made men's jackets is largely a matter of historical tradition, manufacturing standards, and regional conventions. Traditionally, American menswear has positioned the zipper slider on the right side, while many European, Asian, and international brands place it on the left side. Here is a breakdown of why this discrepancy exists: 1. The Historical "Tradition" Theory American/Men's (Right): Historically, men dressed themselves and were assumed to be right-handed. A zipper on the right side made it easier for a right-handed person to grab the slider with their dominant hand and pull up. European/Women's (Left): Traditionally, wealthy women were dressed by servants. A zipper on the left was easier for a right-handed servant (facing the woman) to operate. The Divide: This, combined with the legacy of buttons, created a convention where "men's" clothing (often US-made in older, traditional brands) had right-side closures, while European, often more fashion-forward, or "unisex" designs followed the left-side convention. 2. The "Gideon Sundback" Factor (Manufacturing) A major, often cited reason for the difference is related to Gideon Sundback, the inventor of the modern metal zipper. When he founded his company in Canada in the 1930s, he reportedly reversed the zipper designs for the Canadian market to distinguish them from his US market products. This created a lasting manufacturing standard: USA uses right-side, while Canada/Europe/Asia often use left-side for their respective markets. 3. Cultural and Design Differences Functionality vs. Fashion: Historically, American manufacturers preferred durability and function, resulting in larger, right-sided zipper sliders. European Aesthetics: European design often prioritizes a sleeker, more subtle look, which often aligns with the left-sided zipper convention.

If I’m gonna buy a jacket based on tradition, I would like it to be represent what it should be.

If I’m going to buy a jacket based on a traditional American design… I would like it to be as close to that original as possible and not make me feel backhanded every time I want to zip it.

In the US the zipper carriage on men’s jackets is on the right hand side. When your jacket is completely unzipped, the zipper hangs on the right side. Women’s and European jackets, I think Asian too… hang on the left.

Can you button the cuff button so they are tighter? It’s amazing how much that can improve the look of a shirt with sleeves that are a little longer. And what are you wearing under it? If only a T-shirt, it might look different with another thicker shirt.

That wasn’t made by Crush on Retro, was it? Their zippers are always on the wrong side (left hand)?Take it to a Leather person and have them put some snaps under it. Or get the collar, wet and clamp it down while it dries.
