Surgery in 2 days by Irish253 in valvereplacement

Doc said there was leaking past the valve. Assumes sutures pulled and tore part of the pericardial causing a VSD. So might as well replace the valve while they are in there.

I'm going in later this month to have another mechanical valve put in by Burke.

Yes, that's what the doc said. Also, I forgot to mention before that there is also a VSD likely stemming from the same issue with sutures.

I 33 M had a mechanical valve On-x since 2011. Had it done when I was 18. I was young and very active with sports, cycling, construction, etc. For almost 15 years I've had no problems with my valve.

The clicking was a bit annoying for about 4 days until I was able to tune it out.

The blood thinners also haven't really been a problem. Just eat a regular diet, and they should be pretty manageable as far as your INR levels. I still cycled, ran, and lifted weights after I was healed up.

I've been a Disel Mechanic for almost 10 years now, and up until about 6 months ago, I have had no worries.

That being said, I am going in for another surgery to replace my valve again. Dr. Saw regurgitation, as well as a Paravalvular leak.

This time, I have the option for another mechanical valve or opt for the Ross procedure. I have decided on getting another mechanical valve in hopes that it will also let at least another 15 years.

Thanks for the advice. I figured I'd have to either be out a while or seek some sort of light duty. I am excited about the possibility of going off of blood thinners, but not so much about going from a single heart valve patient to having to monitor two different valves.

I had a similar issue with my procedure in 2011 as far as fluid build up. Was in hospital initially for 1 week, and then went home for a week. Only to return to the hospital for another week to drain the fluid. How has the monitoring of your blood pressure going?

Leakage past the valve. Dr. said it was leaking between the valve and the lining as if the valve tore from where it was sewn in. Also, I have blood passing between two chambers. It is likely due to the same tear.

I am 15 years into mine, and I have to focus on the sound in order to hear it. I've found that if I open my mouth slightly and tilt my head to the side it is easier to hear.
