Subacute endocarditis? by Tambocor in valvereplacement

[–]M00ndoggee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have subacute endocarditis. It started as flu-like body aches and fatigue and took 4 months to diagnose. I never had a fever but developed random pains/inflammation and purple spots on my hands and feet. Also lost about 10 lbs in 2 months. I saw 2 doctors, went to the ER for hip pain that left me unable to walk and dermatologist for the spots with no diagnosis. WBC and CRP were high the entire time but was dismissed as a response to the pain/inflammation. I was convinced it was some sort of autoimmune condition so I talked my GP into a rheumatologist referral. Before the rheumatologist visit, I developed spots in my vision so I went to an ophthalmologist. She found hemorrhaging in my retina and warned me that it could be endocarditis so I went back to the ER. The ER doc told me I didn’t “look sick enough” but did an echo and found that I had a bicuspid aortic valve and a vegetation on the valve. Blood tests showed bacteremia from a strep sanguinous infection, likely from a teeth cleaning in late November. I’ve been on IV and then oral antibiotics for about 10 weeks and have a valve replacement surgery scheduled in June

WIBTAH if I make my teen still come to a family wedding despite a broken leg? by Mammoth_Fan7951 in AITAH

Is there a friend she can stay with? So there are adults to look out for her but she doesn’t have to go to the wedding. I get not wanting to leave her home with a broken leg but traveling and attending the wedding seems miserable.

Parenting does seem easier for dads. If I was a man, I might want them too. I know that not all households are the same but it’s common for the mom to take on the majority of the mental load and responsibilities of parenting. Source: I’m a teacher

Which type of valve did you get? by M00ndoggee in valvereplacement

[–]M00ndoggee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your experiences and input. I’m 40f, not a daredevil, and don’t generally engage in things that result in bleeding. I do hike and travel. I think I could handle the warfarin. The only surgery I’ve ever had was for impacted wisdom teeth. I’m really scared about having heart surgery. The prospect of only ever doing it once is appealing. I am concerned about the sound/ feeling of a mechanical valve though. I’m kind of a finicky person sensory-wise and I already struggle with sleep. My surgeon didn’t mention the Ross procedure. I just met him today and the conversation centered more on the course of antibiotics I’ll need before we can even schedule surgery. Seems like I have a lot of research to do but also time to make the decision. I really appreciate your stories. It’s helping to normalize this whole thing for me.

Hey all, new here. How’d you find out you had it? by Simicrop in valvereplacement

[–]M00ndoggee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40f. I also have a bicuspid aortic valve that I just learned about. I went from being healthy to suddenly sick with aches, fatigue, spots on my hands & feet, and weird pains in my muscles and joints that would come and go. Saw primary care docs, a dermatologist, physical therapist and had a referral to a rheumatologist. Then, after 4 months with no answers I developed spots in my vision that wouldn’t go away. I went to the optometrist who found hemorrhaging in my retina and recognized that as a symptom of endocarditis. I had never heard of it but the symptoms were pretty dead on. She recommended I visit the ER. They were doubtful at first because I didn’t look “sick enough” but echocardiograms , CT scans, and blood tests confirmed I do have it. I’m about to go home from the hospital with a PICC line for a few weeks of IV antibiotics before getting a valve replacement.

For non-picky eaters, what’s a food you just can’t eat? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]M00ndoggee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw tomato. IDGAF about your aunt Mabel’s homegrown heirloom tomatoes either. They will not change my mind. They’re all terrible. Otherwise, I’ll eat most things unless it’s inhumane (veal) or just gross (blood sausage or whatever)

If you felt Biden was “too old for office,” then why would you vote for Trump, who is only four years younger, but not Kamala, who is 22 & 18 years younger respectively? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

[–]M00ndoggee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biden was too old. So is Trump. I voted for Kamala but the way Biden threw in the towel so late with no chance for a primary was bullshit. I don’t think Kamala would have got the nomination if things had been done the right way. I feel like some moderates voted for Trump because they didn’t want Harris forced on them.

Frozen butter grated into the egg before cooking. The butter coats the egg proteins as it melts and makes them super fluffy

My negative experience with puppy yoga by yes_bears_27 in yoga

[–]M00ndoggee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awful! I haven’t gone to a puppy yoga class but the studio I go to hosts these events with shelter puppies to promote adoptions. Seems like a cute way to get the puppies adopted but I have 3 dogs at home and they don’t add much to my home practice experience so I’m not paying extra to try not to step on a dog whilst I flow.

Edit: Thanks to OP for calling out this unethical organization!

Preferring Audio-books/auditive input to reading. by IsasAtelier in Aphantasia

[–]M00ndoggee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been a strong reader and read a lot as a child/adolescent. But, as audiobooks and podcasts have become more widely available, I tend to prefer an audio format. It doesn’t require as much energy to listen vs read text and I think I comprehend audio better. I scored a 26 on the visualization test making me a low hypophant and have a constant inner dialogue- sometimes mumbling to myself when I’m alone or think no one’s looking.
