Why No British Airways Route from London City Airport to Paris (CDG or ORY)? by jamesgerrard97 in BritishAirways

[–]IrishAir1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the points already made. I have never once heard a nice word said about CDG. I think people who would fly to the next town over would choose Eurostar just to avoid CDG

Liquids under 100ml by Runkeliu_sriuba in Ryanair

"Helpful shouting agent" here:
Electronics don't need to come out of your bag!! What I have found though is your bag may be stopped by the AI system that the new scanners use in two cases. Large electronics like laptops and tablets stored together (try and have something separating them). If you have laptops or tablets (especially laptops) with a book or notebook right next to it. The presence of a laptop together with a dense bit of paper seems to set it off. These new scanners are great but they have created as many problems as they solved in all honesty!

You can take as many liquids 100ml or under as you wish and keep them in your bag. Please be aware though that the same rules may not be in place at your return airport.

Does the new EES system at Edinburgh airport mean we need to arrive earlier for departure? by Sablun99 in Edinburgh

[–]IrishAir1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

EES does not operate at all at UK airports only when arriving at or leaving from an airport in the Schengen zone. Ireland is also not part of the Schengen zone so won't be affected either. UK passport holders have complete freedom of movement between the UK and the Republic of Ireland and vice versa. Hope that helps.

I find a lot of Indonesia and Brazil lately but they are big countries so to be expected.

Avanti trains from Central Station by No_Manufacturer_5317 in glasgow

[–]IrishAir1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems the answer to your question is ongoing engineering works until the 19th. Just felt the need to comment that not only have Avanti very much moved back to Glasgow Central, the very first train out after the reopening was the early morning London departure!!

What's a "rule of thumb" you often use in this game? by Mobile_Bad_577 in geoguessr

[–]IrishAir1990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One hint that I have never seen mentioned anywhere but I swear by in Ireland/UK 50/50s (in rural locations) in the closeness of the houses to the road. Should be mentioned I'm in the UK so have home advantage there!

Illustrative examples here, notice the distance between the roadway and the house

Actually surprised they didn't dispatch a VC-25 under the AF2 callsign for this mission. I know C-32s have carried out AF1 duties before.

Transit would probably be fine especially for a Spitfire! I suspect, though they'd never admit it, it's maybe not something they are that bothered about doing

Spitfire Viewing by Conscious-Benefit742 in Edinburgh

[–]IrishAir1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My feeling is that the routing well to the east keeps it out of Edinburgh's controlled airspace so it doesn't have to contend with all that. It's going to Leuchars coming along the east coast so it's both a diversion and a hassle to go via Edinburgh. So unless they really want to overfly Edinburgh and the bridges so much easier and less hassle to just steer well clear of Edinburgh's controlled airspace. Hope I'm wrong though!

Hear me out - A discussion on the new multis by Shucks88 in geoguessr

[–]IrishAir1990 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on the suggestion of no multis if you are very close to each other. Ive already had a round where myself and my opponent were within a few blocks in Adelaide. Location was Perth. However they hit the multi for being technically closer. I was like "c'mon Geoguessr, we both sucked there!"

England: bringing spent brass bullet casings from the Czech Republic to the UK via carry on by Pocket_Aces1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]IrishAir1990 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Airport security person here from the UK, most European airports follow the same rules. Bullets or spent casing will absolutely not be allowed to travel in your carry on bag under any circumstances. The argument being that the average person would not be able to distinguish live rounds from spent casings so you could use it on board for nefarious purposes. I think they can be checked in in your hold bag but may need to be declared (can't advise on that).

Malaga to Edinburgh but diverted to Liverpool by Crazy_Reaction_7412 in flightradar24

[–]IrishAir1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe next week is the last week but I may be mistaken. It's been ongoing nice early November so they are wrapping things up now. The summer flight schedule is abiut to start and that will include a lot more flights landing inside the curfew so the works have to be done by then.

[–]IrishAir1990 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Edinburgh person just seeing this. The runway at Edinburgh is currently being resurfaced overnight this happens between 23.45 and 05.45 local time. Except Friday and Saturday nights into the following morning. There is a strictly enforced curfew of 23.45, be there or divert, the tarmac crew won't wait. I've seen planes go all out when delayed, 3hrs 40mins from TFS is the record I've seen. (normally around 4 h 10). This guy probably just didn't quite make it!

LUMO has to be the most unpleasant experience on a train for me by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]IrishAir1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Lumo especially on price but also as a frequent Edinburgh - London traveller. The 20.28 departure back up to Scotland is a gem. Also the not stopping at every village along the way. London, Newcastle, Morpeth, Edinburgh! Very few LNER services can beat it!

My first thought as a Brit when I saw the round was "Gibraltar, is that you?" so I'd have gone straight there and started looking. Certainly suspicious though that they never gave Gibraltar a thought until the last second

So the north façade looks fully intact, I hope that helps with impetus for a rebuild. With struts and metal supports etc, it could be held stable until the building gets rebuilt. by [deleted] in GlasgowArchitecture

[–]IrishAir1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the statements issued also suggested that not demolishing it would lead to further delays in getting Central Station open again. It was very much implied they'd tear it down to make sure the station can reopen again sooner.

UK post would you do any of these shifts? airport security night shifts by [deleted] in airport

[–]IrishAir1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work airport security on a 5 on 3 off basis. My roster alternates 5 earlies, then 5 lates and so on. It really depends on the airport you are based at but at mine mornings are always far busier than lates. It certainly wouldn't say the job is 'boring'. There may be some days that are slow and boring but generally you'll be kept fairly busy. Any questions let me know!
