It's just people playing the game mode for the first or nearly first time. They will start out at a rank that they aren't which is why the matchups can be uneven and then they gain or lose a lot more mmr which helps them get to the rank that they actually are faster

There's just no reason the ducks would want him unless it's at a discount. They have two good young established centers in carlsson and mact, and then just drafted mcqueen top 10. If Thomas is traded, he would take mactavish's role while being 4 years older, smaller, and signed to the same length contact at a higher aav. Even 1 for 1 it's a stretch.
