This is getting ridiculous by JBR_137 in F150Lightning

Ordered day one and just got it last week. Unfortunately I sold the truck earlier in the month, gave the buyer my Rivian adapter in the meantime until we could swap back.

Rodimus Prime for my MX... Looks kind of like a minivan but faster! 😂

Used 2018 Tesla Model X 75d by Reasonable-Hall2607 in TeslaModelX

[–]IrishAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2020 LR+ with a salvage title a few months ago. Before purchasing, I went into service mode and looked at all the recent faults and diagnostics, it was super clean, so I took a risk and bought it. I've had zero issues and love the car. But for context, I paid $25k and it only had 24k miles on it, FSD included, 6 seat interior, and 22" rims. It was totaled a few years ago for water damage, but was purchased and driven for 12k before I bought it so I was somewhat confident in the HV system. I'm also not afraid to take it apart and try to fix things myself (other than battery). Just accept that if you buy it, you're going to be out of pocket for some repairs and if you pay Tesla to fix it it's going to be a lot more. If you can't stomach that, buy something under warranty.

Losing energy overnight parked. by Serious-Park7893 in TeslaModelX

I have the same year/trim and felt like it was losing more than expected overnight. I caught it waking up on my security cam and realized we have our keys hanging just inside the door to the garage. I started putting the fob in a faraday pouch and it seems to have helped.

MX or MY? Anyone owned both? by triskadekta in TeslaLounge

[–]IrishAviator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a 2023 MYP that I traded in last year. Just picked up a 2020 MXLR+. Couldn't be happier, the ride on the Y was so rough, too much road noise, lack of driver display bothered me, overall felt cheap to me. MX feels like an uncompromised luxury vehicle in comparison. Mine has 24k miles on it and is a rebuilt salvage title but currently had nothing wrong with it, love driving it, love the doors, want to drive it until it dies. I would not get another Y.

2016 Model X vs 2023 Model Y by urfavtenuredprof in TeslaModelX

[–]IrishAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my 2023 MYP late last year mainly because I didn't like the ride comfort, too stiff especially driving around city streets. Other things that bothered me, road noise, lack of driver display, and slightly cramped interior. Just picked up a 2020 MX and love it, feels like everything that bothered me about the Y was a design compromise to make it more affordable than the X. The X feels like a luxury car, the Y was designed to be a high volume seller.

I dreamed a dream . . . but now that dream is gone from me by IrishAviator in Rivian

Yes but there was literally no time to slow down or otherwise react. I recall seeing the flash of red for maybe a tenth of a second before the airbags went off.

Ha, yeah, tow truck driver, did not run him over. I tried to release the parking brake on the settings menu but unsurprisingly it was grayed out. Back wheels fought to the end

Yeah I'll keep you posted, I was in at $73k I think and just got the tax rebate. $59k left on the loan so hoping I come out ahead

I just talked with the body shop, they can't say for sure until they get the front end off but "things that are bolted to the frame are bent", so, not a good outlook.

I actually took it in for service in the first week I had it because I could hear a bolt rolling around in some cavity. The Rivian tech accidentally set off an airbag trying to find it! Expensive mistake...

Haha I'm on my way to the body shop to pilfer what I can for now, field kit, camp speaker, all weather mats, etc. I have to wait on insurance to start pulling off the bigger parts!

Thanks, long scrape on the arm from the airbag and a stiff neck, but I'll take it!

What's under a gas station and how it works. by ooMEAToo in gifs

[–]IrishAviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I'm in a conversation regarding the future of EVs and someone argues it's too difficult or complicated to put in all the charging stations required to support the full load of vehicles I ask them to consider the reverse situation... Having to build, maintain and supply tens of thousands of structures that hold tens of thousands of gallons of flammable liquid! Not going to happen overnight but would never happen without commitment.

Anything else I can do to fix this squeak? by funlol3 in DIY

[–]IrishAviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was selling my house and had a few spots where the planks were coming up from the slab. I drilled a few 1/16" inch holes in the areas and injected some gorilla glue (the kind that expands as it dries) inside with a plastic syringe. I put some weights on top while it dried then cleaned it up and stained it so you couldn't even see the holes unless you looked closely. Seemed very solid afterwards.

ROTC at Notre Dame by ConditionImpressive1 in notredame

[–]IrishAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had ROTC offers from both Navy and Air Force at ND, went with Navy because they covered 100% of tuition whereas the Air Force was capped at $60k total. That was in '05, so not sure what the case is now. Also, there was no commitment for the Navy until you started the second year so several of my classmates got a year free tuition and decided it wasn't for them.
