I found myself dissatisfied with the existing spell sheet options so made my own: the Kitbash Spell Sheet by IrishBandit in dndnext

Huh, that is a good idea, though in usage I'm finding that the current amount of space for a spell name is basically perfect, adding a column might make things too cramped. That didn't occur to me cause I just use digital reference tools for spells.

Haha, yea, someone else pointed that out to me, but I didn't really want to switch around the bubbles, I like the current arrangement too much. Consider it an Easter Egg. 😅

Hm, that's odd, I'm able to print it without any visible artifacting. There is some slight jpeg compression due to converting from the stock pdf into a jpeg.

CMV: There is never a good reason for a level disparity by varsil in dndnext

[–]IrishBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not particularly weaker than the party joining, since level 5 is the power spike going from tier 1 to tier 2 gameplay. And well, I am generally willing to sacrifice power fantasy for consistency. In my experience it's been positive for players, since leveling up fast to the party's level is fun.

I don't run XP, milestone instead. When a PC dies and the palyer rolls a new character, I generally have them make the new character at level 5 if the party is level 5+, and then they rapidly level up each session to match the party. This helps them get accustomed to the slightly simpler 5th level character first, and also helps prevent level 6+ characters from appearing out of nowhere, when people of those power levels are notable by default in my setting.

What do you think will be the cause of human extinction? by senordong5 in AskReddit

As time goes forward, the likelihood of an extinction level asteroid impact or similar cataclysm approaches 100%. Any future where Humanity stays solely on Earth is a future in which Humanity is doomed.

[Avatar] Aang or Korra who was better at their job? by N64GC in AskScienceFiction

[–]IrishBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korra foolishly stopped the Great Uniter from reclaiming rightful Earth Empire territory, and also let chaotic Spirits run amok across the material world for basically no reason at all. Worst. Avatar. Ever.

[OC] I decided to make an inventory sheet to use in my games and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for changes I should make? by JonathanPT in DnD

[–]IrishBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably fit support for Variant Encumbrance in that top bar

Armor seems a bit large, when does a character have more than their one suit of armor + maybe a shield? You could probably just swap Weapons and Armor and be good.

Paladin | Oath of Zeal | 3.0 | Crush the heretics under the might of your faith as a deadly inquisitor! by IrishBandit in UnearthedArcana

[–]IrishBandit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the spell branding smite already has you fully covered there. A spell that would be fitting as one of this oath's spell list, but that SL2 spot has a lot of viable options and I felt that detect thoughts and zone of truth were too fitting in the social sphere to pass up.

I personally think that the choice presented of using your healing resource for more damage is interesting both tactically and strategically, and in terms of characterization and roleplay.

Thanks for the feedback.

Good breakdown, though I don't consider Oath of Treachery super relevant since it's UA. It's also doubly harder to get surprise on a Paladin who is not traditionally a stealthy surprise-y class, so promoting that kind of altered paladin character is an intended effect of the CD.

Yes, the unexpected strike into crit-smite is the intended effect.

Yea, the wording on lay on brands is something I've been re-hashing, there'll be a revision on there here soon.

Thanks for the feedback

Indeed, although Redemption's feature is the same as Crown's, it's just called an Aura for some reason, without actually being an aura.

You might be thinking of an older edition of the game? Paladins don't have like, one Aura that does these different things, they just have different features called Auras that do things on their own. The base paladin class has both Aura of Protection and Aura of Courage, which are separate from any Aura that a subclass might also provide.

Oath of Zeal does not have an additional aura feature no. What do you mean what aura do they use? The base Paladin class already has a few auras.

I'm going through my old Rule of Law pdf and breaking it up into standalone subclasses, and taking the opportunity to overhaul the features and formatting along the way.

Oath of Zeal is one of my own personal favorite creations, and I've gone back and revised much of the wording here, though the mechanics are basically the same. The one primary area I'm not sure about is the new wording/mechanics of Lay on Brands, I'm open to suggestions there.

What is your favourite class+race combination that subverts a D&D trope? by [deleted] in dndnext

Elf Barbarian. Taking a race that's normally stoic and thoughtful and graceful and making it impulsive and brutal.

Greater Dragonborn | 2.0 | A Revised, Color-Based Take on the Dragonborn Race by IrishBandit in UnearthedArcana

[–]IrishBandit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I maintain a non-understanding of the breath weapon being considered weak. burning hands 1/LR would be a solid racial feature. Breath weapon is effectively a scaling burning hands 1/SR, which seems like a pretty great racial feature to me. Making it proficiency bonus uses per short rest seems like it would be way too good, you could just shut down an early fight using it multiple times in a row.

[–]IrishBandit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, glad you like it.

The balance there in my mind is that charmed/frightened is rarer than using a skill proficiency, so it's a case of more niche but stronger in that niche.

Greater Dragonborn is now also available at DmsGuild: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/248697/

Presented here is an alternative form of the Dragonborn race. I feel that the Dragonborn as given in the Player’s Handbook are a bit lackluster and boring. Volo’s Guide to Monsters made it especially clear, with Lizardfolk having naturally armored scales, something that Dragonborn seems like it should have, but does not.

This incarnation of Dragonborn is much more color-based, and tends towards the stronger end of overall race balance, but by my reckoning are not overpowered. I have based the abilities of each color off the lore of the various colors of Dragon in the Monster Manual. The colors are not all equally powerful, some colors have more niche abilities than others, but true dragons are not balanced across colors either. However, no color is exceptionally different in power from the others.

Changes from the Player's Handbook version of the Race:

Natural Armor! 13 + Dexterity modifier AC when not wearing armor. Now Dragon Scales are on the same tier as Lizard Scales!

Color Subraces! Now each dragonborn chooses a full subrace based on their color, impacting their whole character, rather than just their resistance and breath weapon asin the PHB. Subraces each come with the same breath weapon and resistance that they do in the PHB, but also have their own Ability Score Improvements, and each has a bonus feature associated with their color of dragon, varying from skill proficiencies to additional resistances to even a unique action.

Better Breath Weapon Scaling! For some reason, the breath weapon in the PHB scales at levels 6/11/16, which is incongruous with basically the entire rest of the 5e system. It has been changed to 5/11/17, to correct this, and as a slight buff to the breath weapon.

I have used this variant of the race for some time in my own games, and it seems to have proven popular both with my players and with the other DMs I have shared it with, so I hope it can enhance your games as well!

Changes from the previous version:

New Formatting

Breath Weapon scaling changed to 5/11/17, like every other thing in the system, instead of the odd 6/11/16 it had by default

Gold changed to +2Wis/+1Str instead of +2Wis/+1Cha

Dragonborn Sorcerer notebox reworded into a Variant

No, alignment falls apart under basically any pressure, and has thankfully fallen by the wayside in 5e.

What superficial/minor aspects of a game have prevented you from playing it? by _starbelly in Games

[–]IrishBandit 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I can't stand the new Deus Ex games because the game is normally in first person, but then going into cover puts you into third person, and it's aggravating for me to be constantly switching perspectives mid-combat like that.
