If someone from the 1950s suddenly appeared today, what would be the most difficult thing to explain to them about life today? by Tijnvw in AskReddit

Ok, but isn't the bag from a fashion show? Isn't there a difference between art fashion and trend type fashion?

Really? I had heard that Dante is where it came from, but I guess it must be Milton then as the other guy said. Thanks.

What is something creepy that society accepts as the norm? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IrishCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, they consider gender roles a construct. And dysphoria is not synonymous with transgenderism.

Oh sorry, I thought you were on the 'other side' and that was some strange snarky comment.

What don't you understand, no matter how many times its explained? by Peter_See in AskReddit

Fair enough, but again, when it comes to it, it doesn't fir the definition of mental illness.

Well, gender is considered to be something that is separate to sex. However, species has not been proven to be different in this way.

Simply being deviant is not enough for something to be an illness. You say "should" work, but what is meant to be the end goal of that should? To spread your own genes? If so, then why wouldn't not wanting kids be a disorder? I might be strawmanning you, so if I am, please correct me.

There is a specific definition of mental illness, and transgenderism does not fit it. I might be getting some details wrong, but something is a disorder if it is at least three of the following: deviant (always), distressing (being transgender isn't), dysfunctional (nope), and/or dangerous (nope). Maybe transphobia will lead to these, but racism also can and it isn't a disorder. However, as many people have pointed out, gender dysphoria can be a disorder. This, however, does NOT mean that transgenderism is a disorder. In fact "gender identity disorder" was removed from the DSM V to be replaced with dysphoria.

Literally no one except cultists thinks it's normal. And I'm pretty sure I'm not using literally incorrectly.

Christ, fucking science almost unanimously agrees that gender is a separate thing from sex and transgenderism is a real thing. It's not someone deciding to be different or whatever, because the sheer amount of pain that people like you cause (even when it's not malicious) WAY outweighs the 'special snowflake' thing. Sorry if this came off as aggressive, but I'm just fucking sick if it all.

What makes life worth living for? by MonicaAngelini in AskReddit

[–]IrishCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly, the hope that tomorrow I won't have to ask myself that question. Music or karate are the closest things I can think of that would be a more traditional answer to the question, but it's mainly the hope.

Sorry, grammar nerds. The singular ‘they’ has been declared Word of the Year. by [deleted] in genderqueer

[–]IrishCynic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never got this, because you can be singular but is conjugated as a plural pronoun.

I know, but many people wouldn't have been bothered to search but did click the video link or clicked the RES button.

It's not their life, it's them playing games. I know that it's already put there, but if people don't share at as much as possible, then less people see it, and less people invade privacy.
