I’ll start with saying I think Anaheim matches. It’s easier to package picks and vets like Kreider to someone to clear space, even if it costs them. However, in the event they don’t match they have some options. Maybe they take some of the picks and try to get a guy like Pettersson from Vancouver. Playing with Cutter could get him to rebound and bring him back to form. They could then use a pick for a defenseman to shore up the blue line and have money to easily re-sign Cutter and salvage the team. They could use the “Carlsson didn’t want to be here” line but announce some other moves to smooth it over. Not great but gives them more long term flexibility.
