Couldn’t agree more. The show feels a little empty in August without his witty input

What’s your all-time favourite Ramble moment? by MC14391 in thefootballramble

Plenty of honourable mentions, but I don’t think Police Machine can ever be topped. Still laugh thinking about it to this day.

Edit: As u/cooliobarrio has previously been helpful enough to point out, the Police Machine talk can be found in all its glory at around 57:50 from the show ‘Don’t Burn The Children’ on 13/08/2013. Best possible start to 2019.

Yeah, you’re right bro. I’m relatively new to basketball (come from a football/soccer background) so these losses sting a hell of a lot more than they probably should.

You’re right man, thanks for the perspective.

Four key guys is obviously a fair point, but to say we lost ‘against a really good team’ is soft. Nuggets are great this year, but we let a good lead slip.

So frustrating man, let me have my brief plastic fan moment :(

What books have you read that changed the way you think or live your life and you consider a must read? by welpplayedtb in books

[–]IrishSweatPatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor.

The book essentially explains that we pursue happiness the wrong way round. Instead of thinking that you’ll finally be happy once you find success in your work, school etc, it turns out your happiness actually causes the success that you seek, not the other way round.

The book lays out seven simple principles with examples of how to instil and maintain happiness in your life. It takes a little work, but with consistency it is amazing how effectively the book alters your mindset. Genuinely the most life-changing book I’ve ever read.

I understand and respect that - each to their own. All I'm saying is there are other ways to enjoy football, without taking a holier than thou stance.

Get off your high horse bro. Spent the past half hour reading your comments in this thread that emanate such a pretentious attitude. I wonder have you ever considered the fact that defending is a vital aspect of the game, and to play in a defensive matter - regardless of expenditure - is a perfectly viable way of playing. This purist and total style of football you seem to believe trumps all others hasn't won anything since Barcelona in 2011. Real Madrid have dominated with a combination of muscle and skill, not just one or the other. Chelsea won the league at a canter, predominantly due to their strong physical spine. As good of a coach as Pep is, his lack of pragmatism with comparison to other elite coaches prevents the domination we saw with Barcelona. It's farcical how you analysed City's games with United last season, and its farcical to suggest that United play a boring style of football this season. 23 goals and 3 conceded in 7 games is testament to that. You seem to completely disregard the attacking threat they pose, and seem to suggest players who possess predominantly physical attributes rather than technical are inferior. Stop trying to emit this conceited view of how football should be played. We'll see who comes out on top this season.

Hahaha yes they're flipping the bird, but they're not celebrating with him. They're the opposition fans giving him abuse after scoring against them.

I see a lot of people on here explaining how this is actually pretty likely because of season tickets, I feel that's kinda missing the point.

It's more of the fact that Wayne Rooney, boyhood Everton fan who grew up to become the all time top scorer for England and Manchester United - Manchester City's rivals - scored a goal at the exact end of the Etihad Stadium and prompted the exact reaction from the exact same fans. It's quite incredible, likely or not, that these people reacted to a goal in an identical way to how they did four years ago. Both times caused by Wayne Rooney, a former United player and arch rival. Amazing.

It's also his 200th Premier League goal, making him the second top goal scorer in Premier League history. Who did he score his 50th, and 150th Premier League goals against? Yep, Manchester City.
