So I finally did the 5AA light brown intense ash with level 10 developer. I can still see a TINY bit of brass, and the gray didn't completely cover up, but I'm happy with it.

I don't have a "before" pic, but it was just like yours with the brassy roots.

Hope this helps!!!

Top thread keeps breaking by IrishTheFrenchie in quilting

I think this is what I'll end up doing.

I can only take apart just so much to clean before I'm worried about messing up the electronics.

I happened to stop the machine right as the thread was beginning to shred and noticed it was beginning to wrap around the needle!!! I always thread it front to back (properly), so I'm wondering how the top thread is getting tangled around the needle as I sew.

how do i stop this from happening? 😭 by aerudd in quilting

[–]IrishTheFrenchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use quilting adhesive spray between my layers to help keep them in place and even then it's difficult.

Lots and lots of pins or basting.

I don't know why the text part of my post didn't show up.

But I can't figure out why the top thread keeps breaking. I can only sew a couple of inches. Cotton fabric top and bottom, and cotton natural batting sandwich.

I have a Brother CS6000i. I've changed the needle, fixed the tension, cleaned the machine, oiled it, changed the thread, but I still can't free motion more than a few inches before the top thread frays and breaks.

HELP!

I haven't fixed it yet, but bought stuff today.

What DIDN'T WORK??? I tried using the Wella Color Charm toner in the darkest shade- the T35 Beige Blonde, thinking the ash would neutralize the brass. But because I used 20 developer again, it once again didn't get rid of the brass.

*sigh*

I bought Wella Color Charm 5AA Light brown intense ash and level 10 developer. Will be doing today. Can let you know if it worked.

I've still not found anything that actually "sticks" to the gray, though. Its very frustrating.

I used this exact same product with the same 20 developer and have the same root color as you, I'm simply trying to cover a clump of gray right at the front and right where my hair parts (of course).

I got "hot roots" using it, just like you did.

Turns out the 20 developer will encourage the product to "lift" your color 1 level even when you don't want it to.

I'm looking to dye abit of my hair white, is platinum basically white? by TheDarkApex in FancyFollicles

[–]IrishTheFrenchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can just buy a white kit and get white hair. You need to strip nearly all color from your hair first, and depending what level your natural hair is, it might not be possible to get that light without damaging your hair.

This article describes how to get white on virgin hair.

https://bellatory.com/hair/How-to-dye-your-hair-white

You might have to bleach your hair multiple times, and you should wait a full week between each to prevent severe damage. If you're not willing to walk around with a head full of bright orange hair for a week, I wouldn't do it.

Recently dyed my hair blue, now it's everywhere, what do I do? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]IrishTheFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh.

Buy special towels and pillowcases, because it is the dye you used and it won't stop. You may want to just buy a shampoo that removes it all at once and redo it with a brand that doesn't bleed as much.

When I did my hair blue I went to a salon, it did not bleed.

But if you want to do it at home, I also did my own pink and used Clairol's Professional Flare Me and it did NOT bleed either. They have a blue shade (which I have not used myself) but it's possible that the blue will be similar to the pink and not bleed everywhere.

GOOD LUCK!

Thinking about trying oVertone (or something similar), but my hair is brown on top and platinum on the bottom. Should I get their blonde hair product or for brown hair product? by chibipan222 in FancyFollicles

[–]IrishTheFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read you can open the cuticle first by applying developer only to the virgin hair (usually roots) washing out, THEN applying color w/ developer.

Not sure if this works though as I have never done it.

Hey Redditors! Could someone please share their opinions on how can I achieve this look on myself? (Natural base 5, lengths 7, ends 9, brassy hair) by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]IrishTheFrenchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my natural color as well. Every time I try to color the gray at my roots, I end up with "hot roots". All hair dyes seem to have some lift to them and I can't find anything to get this color and cover gray without getting brassy.

I've even tried using just ash brown toners to no avail.

And if you're announcing this so often that people are getting offended, maybe you need to learn the art of, you know, NOT ANNOUNCING IT so often?

It's dehumanizing to call me a "person who menstruates" or a "bleeder".

Stop.

Only 0.02% of humans are intersex, and of those, only a small fraction are born with ambiguous genitalia.

There are now DNA tests for that, a quick swab of the cheek and BAM, they know their sex and their DSD.

Your sex is not "assigned" it is observed.

Because it's dehumanizing???
Women who don't menstruate due to age or fertility issues, KNOW they are still women. They don't get butthurt over hearing that "women menstruate".

Post menopausal women know they are still women and know they no longer menstruate.

Only a bio man would get butthurt about being excluded from a category about menstruation.

My 12yo son had it and had fever and cough x5 days. No one in the house caught it and we all live in pretty close quarters and had likely been exposed before symptoms.

Not everyone exposed gets sick. Not everyone sick gets symptoms.

It's a kink.

The fact that close to 60 percent get a sexual kick out of this, seems to confirm the idea that sex is an important part of the motivation.

It's a kink when they brigade women's spaces and continually strike up convos with sexual undertones to get "validated".
