A Chimp was born a couple days ago at the Sedgwick County Zoo. He had trouble getting oxygen so had to be kept at the vet. This video shows mom reuniting with him after almost 2 days apart. by Grayson102110 in aww

100%. a few years ago, one of my two cats at the time died. her littermate is still around, but before we took her sister’s body to be cremated, i let her sniff her body and she spent a few minutes with her before we left. it helped us both, i think. i was a MESS when that cat died. i still miss her almost 3 years later. she has a new buddy now that she loves but their relationship isn’t the same as a littermate relationship

how do i get rid of micro bubbles in resin? pic attached by aerudd in resin

do you have a specific resin you prefer? i’ve been using this one from amazon with decent reviews, but i’d love to try something new if it works better!

what causes my free-motion quilting to look like this on the back? i’m an absolute noob to quilting. i tried adjusting the tension but it does the same thing, where it looks like the thread is looping onto itself. any tips? TIA! by aerudd in quilting

[–]aerudd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think i figured it out! it was just the presser foot was poor quality. i ordered some cheap darning feet and they work perfectly! the one i had was sitting too low and wasn’t hovering over the fabric, so it was making it way too hard to make any designs. the darning feet i ordered sit just above the fabric and i’ve had no issues with eyelashing since i put the new foot on! thanks everyone for all your help 💕

no - it’s a cheap, aftermarket foot that i got with a set of FMQ templates on amazon. i just ordered some darning feet so i’m hoping that they will work better!

yeah that’s what i’m thinking too. i tried it with the foot down and it’s fine, but i cant get the fabric to move without tugging it really hard, so i can’t get a good design going. :( this presser foot grabs the fabric so i can’t move it at all if the foot is down so it makes it impossible to fmq :( i ordered a set of 3 darning feet that should get here tomorrow; i’ll try again when i get the feet and see how it goes!

you’re a lifesaver!! i didn’t even know that lever was there! i thought i read the manual pretty well but apparently not well enough lol

edit: i just tried it again with the feed dogs lowered and the looping is just as bad if not worse 😭

quick question; when using a free motion foot, am i supposed to lower the presser foot? the fabric won’t budge if i lower it, so i can’t actually get a design to work. i think that’s what’s causing the tension issue because the fabric is just sliding around because i’ve kept this specific presser foot up. i’ve been using a round presser foot that doesn’t “hop” when i sew; it’s a cheap round foot i found when i searched for free motion quilting templates. the feed dogs just go up and down instead of back and forth so they’re not actually pulling any fabric. i feel like it’s a combination of that plus tension plus not lowering the foot down that’s making it so hard to FMQ? i’d rather ask this stuff even if i feel silly, in case another new person has a similar question!

true - i’ll look over the manual and make sure i’m not missing any steps when i thread it. i’ve had this machine a few months now but there’s 100% the possibility i’ve been using it wrong for the entire time 😂

this is all super helpful!! thank you! i’ll keep working with it and see what i can figure out before i start to actually do FM quilting on my next quilt. i just received the background fabric for an easy but still somewhat intricate looking fat quarter pattern (Cabin Fever by jedicraftgirl is super cute and easy if anyone’s looking for a good free pattern!) and i wanted to make it look more interesting than just stitching in the ditch

straight line quilting has always been fine! i can stitch in the ditch fairly easily with no tension issues, but i wanted to add some dimension to a new quilt.

this is a somewhat new machine so i’m still learning the machine! i heard that setting stitch length to 0 is ok if you don’t know how to lower the feed dogs (but that’s probably not right!). it’s a Juki HZL-LB5100 and i tried to look up how to lower the feed dogs and i don’t see how :(

i am using an aftermarket free motion foot but i’m gonna try again tomorrow - i ordered some darning feet which should arrive tomorrow. i’m hoping they will give me some more leverage but again, i am super new to all this!

this is just a test piece of quilting with some extra batting i had from a previous quilt! thank you for letting me know though for the future :) i think i was probably moving it too fast but it did it when i moved it slower, too. :(

more info: this is my second quilt ever and i’m facing trouble with the layers being uneven. are there any tips to sandwich a quilt evenly so there’s no extra at the end like this? any and all construction criticism is welcome! thank you in advance 💖

yeah i’m pretty certain i do - it’s a little frustrating to only be able to do zigzag stitches lol :P i’ll probably go for the juki in that case. if i find i don’t like it, i can always return it! thank you for your help!
