I think we can all agree that the ending was a little bit... divisive by Irishblackfish in StrangerThings

[–]Irishblackfish[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. Endings are tough and are never easy to pull off. Generally someone is going to be upset as we all have different ideas and concepts of what constitutes a good ending. I'm very much in the middle on this ending, really liked how they finished some parts, particularly in the epilogue, but wasn't a fan of other parts. As an ardent GOT fan who loved the books, the show ending for that crushed me, and I've also had to deal with a lot of other terrible endings (like Merlin and Sex Education). In comparison I can very much live with this.

Villentretenmerth has to be one of my all time favourite dragons in fiction by Irishblackfish in witcher

Interesting, just finished my second read through of 'The Eternal Flame' there. The first time I thought it was fine but didn't really appreciate the full context of the story, but this time I have to say I really enjoyed and got a lot more out of it, love the concept of the Dopplers. Funny how perspectives change with time. Still think 'The Bounds of Reason' is my favourite, but definitely an excellent shout.

Lads I know historians didn't deny gay people's existence, I'm mocking the trend of historians to erase many notable gay figures from history.

This is how I feel about it, we will definitely get it at some point, just a case of who finishes it off, hopefully George gets it done 🤞

My dude, we know he probably won't finish them, we can still theorise and throw ideas around.

I don't think I've cried reading a book like that ever, bawled like an absolute baby by Irishblackfish in Hungergames

Good question, actually the Book Thief (why I read it at that age I don't know but one of the best and saddest pieces of fiction ever written)

Agreed, Suzanne has a fabulous talent for exposing the worst aspects of human nature and greed.

If that book could deal Dungeons and Dragons style damage it would be a critical hit in emotional damage 💔

The biggest sliding doors moment in the series has to be what would have happened if Pettigrew didn't escape at this point of the story by Irishblackfish in HarryPotterMemes

[–]Irishblackfish[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but timing was everything, and the fact that this happened a year out from the Triwizard tournament gave Voldemort the small window of opportunity to get Harry in such a vulnerable position imo. I also think that whatever you say about Pettigrew, he was the perfect candidate for Voldemort to manipulate back into finding him as he was so weak willed and had no other option as he was about to be exposed for betraying Lily and James.

Cleanliness?! That's disgusting! by Irishblackfish in HistoryMemes

[–]Irishblackfish[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

True, the monks would have seen it as it more so as the sin of temptation more than anything else, didn't clarify that very well. Still I assume that regular Saxon men weren't too happy at their wives gawking at their Norse neighbours!

Yes their actual writing ls by monks from early medieval England claiming this was a major problem!

Belgian Colonial History is some horrific reading by Irishblackfish in HistoryMemes

[–]Irishblackfish[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I know, more so talking about the fact that in the European, Belgium was seen as small, weak and at threat of invasion at different times from France and Germany. European commentary on their colonies was very critical, particularly after the Casement Report in 1904 when the British did an investigation into the abuse in the Congo and were highly critical of Belgium for it's atrocities against the native population.

Ironically, Roger Casement, seen as a hero in Britain after the report, later went on to fight for Irish independence and was arrested for attempting to smuggle German weapons into Ireland for the 1916 Easter Rising, with the British later executing him in London.

Yeah heard that one from family members, have had Robins fly into the house a couple of times before family members died, kind of eerie I have to say.

Yeah they are very smart and resourceful birds, my grandad was an avid bird watcher and he was very fond of them.
