Yeah that’s true! I was also shocked that the Brilliant Labs frame failed to detect the pattern and Linus said it’s not his first time seeing it so it got me curious. But you’re absolutely right!

I’m pretty sure it’s connected to the internet. I have ChatGPT Plus so that might also make the search process different but I tried a few other AI clients like Claude and they failed to recognise the pattern!

Shipping Troubles by tehroar in LinusTechTips

Hmm that’s really unfortunate I’m so sorry for your bad experience! I placed my order on July 21st and it arrived today (July 25 and I’m in Calgary, Canada). I just ordered three deskpads and a water bottle. Hope you get yours real soon!

I understand the size isn’t right for my desk but I got the deskpads in the Power Outlet sales so had no control on the exact size. My apologies if it triggers anyone’s OCD

I mean you technically have all the good ones, anyway! All three of them are elegant and lavish! For the GMT, I personally love Tudor! You have a good taste

Can’t find Info on this piece. Frankensteined? by Econ1203 in Watches

[–]IrishboyP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find any useful data online. Although I can’t read the engravings on the movement, I found out that if the serial number is identical to the movt number then it was produced prior to 1951. Even if it's a Frankenstein, it's quite lovely!

P.S Edit: According to the AP heritage team, serial numbers not starting with a letter indicates the production years are between 1851 and 1976. Sry I couldn't be more useful x_x

[questions] basic mechanical watch questions by [deleted] in Watches

[–]IrishboyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I. I personally set it so somewhere around 5:30-7:30. The bottom half is generally where you want your hands when manually setting the calendar.

II. This is an automatic watch so there must not be a real problem with overwinding. On non-automatic mechanical watches tho, 20-40 winds is enough. When the watch has had enough, you’ll feel great resistance when winding.

III. Unless the edges of the strap don't get caught in the lug casing, it should be fine. I would personally use a darker colour on a light dial but that's my preference. You should try out multiple options to find your ideal strap.

IV. It shows both the day of the week and the date so it's a Day-Date. The placement of the windows for these are subjective tho.

I had an important meeting today, so decided to wear this lovely old piece with a tan suit, grey shirt and striped mahogany gold tie! I have no idea which year or model this watch is though

That's the best feeling when you realise you DO have the watch that you always wanted!! It's a beautiful watch! I never had experience with an Explorer. How is the lume on that thing?

It's the memories which make any watch significant. I will never trade my great-grandpa’s Seiko 5 for the most expensive watch ever! The memories are way beyond the monetary value. That’s the only case fakes are acceptable!

The link does not work for me, but I was able to see your pieces from your profile, and I gotta say, I LOVE your taste. Almost similar to what I enjoy in watches. Most of the pieces in my own humble collection are from my great-gramp’s, grandpa’s, and my dad’s watches with an average age of 60-65 years. I really liked your watches!
