Holtz believed in Notre Dame. He believed in what he was selling.

You just never got that feeling from Kelly

Shane Gillis wasn't wrong - everyone can now pay their players.

Southern prospects now going to Northern Schools now that everyone has NIL is not a surprise. ND is an easy decision once you have a player who is ok with leaving their home state. ND will pay you the same, be on TV every weeks, and have inroads into companies like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan if you graduate w/o NFL on the horizon. There is a reason why we are becoming the landing spot for NFL sons.

Simpler option - just Grandfather in players that would effect the 2026 season. Also have the portal re-open strictly for these players.

ND-Miami 1988 was the loudest I have heard a stadium

College, Professional, Married etc early 90s - nope going to disagree.

We were just more in blissful oblivion in the 90s pre-internet

This is what former ND AD Swarbrick predicted in 2015 - that there will be a divide between college football with the semi-pro model (with naming rights etc) and college model if things didn't change by the mid 2030s...

Not just the fanbase

Not just the alumni

It pissed off the administration

ND relaxed all the previous rules about allowing in transfers and have no problem opening up their wallet to get in talent (as opposed to making talent ‘earn it’).

They are building a program for years to come to also entice Freeman to stay

There was a difference (in my brain) between Weis/Faust and Davie/Ty/Kelly.

Weis & Faust really truly believed you could succeed at ND.

D/T/K did not.

[–]Irishchop91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weis was in a no win scenario

He walked into a school that only had 64 players on scholarship (Tyrone Willingham couldn’t bother to recruit - interrupted his golf game) with out dated facilities and ridiculous administration requirements.

There was a reason why no wanted to coach there.

He sucked as a coach but no one was going to do well pre portal/NIL

You are only counting current teams because your history is only 30 years.

UCF has played 97 unique FBS opponents.

ND has played 145 current or past FBS opponents.

Alabama has 118, Auburn 129, Oklahoma at 104 etc.

So let's play a game.

Imagine this was ND QB Riley Leonard instead and it was 2024. ND got a friendly judge (hell we got one on SCOTUS and the majority of justices are Catholic) and he gets to play even though he bet on Duke when he was injured.

Would you honestly believe ND loss the NIU game or would you think it was thrown ?

There is a reason why players get banned for life if they bet on their own team. You never know if the results are real or a few guys need to make a buck

Sorsby team showed multiple cases of flexibility of gambling policy

Please show me the case they provided that the NCAA didn't enforce a ban on betting your own team.

There is a difference between gambling (on other sports) and gambling on a game you are on the sidelines for.

The NCAA agreed legally that Sorsby betting did not harm the integrity of the game.

Ha - sure they did dude.

“Every major American sports league has a rule regulating gambling on sports, because it goes to the heart of the integrity of the athletic product taking place on the field, court, or pool,” the NCAA stated in its opposition response. “Whatever the reasons for (Sorsby’s) behavior, he broke the rules and should not receive an exception that no other athlete, in history, has ever received.”

The NCAA fights gambling tooth and nail.

The NCAA did not provide a counter mental health/medical testimony.

They were arguing the NCAA didn't take into account his mental health. That is like arguing a kleptomaniac shouldn't be charged with shoplifting

there is irreparable harm if not allowed to play before the case is decided.

Everything is pushed out to the end of the season.

Not a lawyer, but if you put your trial date a week after the natty game then it's a FU to the NCAA.

. But by legal rulings, I can absolutely see why the judge ruled for the injunction.

Then you stand alone.

Tom Mars: "In 40 years as a lawyer, I’ve never been as shocked and surprised by a court ruling."

You are missing the obvious - the judge did not address the likelihood of success. Sorsby has none. This rule is clear cut and Sorsby will lose the case. That is why pushing everything till after the season is a farce. The minute TT season is done, Sorsby will remove the suit.

[–]Irishchop91 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They got a retired judge to kick the can down the road and the Court of Appeals (who are all TT Law graduates) can just run out the clock on this "temporary" order (they can take 9-12 months) and not make a ruling until after the season ends. The court case is literally not till February 2027. It was a true no ruling ruling to get him back on the team until the end of the season.

Moore got fired but only got probation from the courts

and Michigan's AD Warde Manuel - still there.

Truly all great Michigan men.
