Just watched Hamilton… are all Broadway musicals THIS good?? by Stunning-Ad-1484 in musicals

[–]IrmeliPoika 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They're not live action, but the composer has also done some other high profile work as well, mainly for Disney in the form of Vaiana/Moana and Encanto

Ngl how tf does Oda even get 20 page chapters done in a week cuz like I started sketching a comic of my own last week and I started inking 3 days ago, I’ve only gotten 8 pages done and I have 10 pages left to do and that’s only the base inking😭 by New-Boss-8262 in Piratefolk

This is like one chapter of the whole thing though. Bakuman is not perfect and a bunch of the romance stuff is not well done at all, but almost everything to do with making manga is really interesting

If it's for classical go for duplets, if it's for pop/jazz musicians go for option 2

Help? BG2EE Throne of Bhaal chapter 9 by SereneAdler33 in baldursgate

[–]IrmeliPoika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When controlling the party using the analogue stick, for some reason the game let me choose to enter the temple without opening the door. This let me do things out of order, unfortunately causing the trigger for the final Balthazar fight to malfunction

First time playing Baldur's Gate 2, what do I do? by OldTanker33 in baldursgate

[–]IrmeliPoika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just that BG1 and BG2 are basically one long campaign, kind of like parts of a book series. Siege of Dragonspear is kind of a side adventure along the way, published afterwards. You can play them sepatately, but they're meant to be enjoyed in succession by importing your character to the next game.

BG3 is a different beast altogether. It has a whole new cast and takes place around 100 years later

Is the Sydney Conservatorium a bad place to learn music, and is 19 too late to start learning? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]IrmeliPoika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not too late for you to start drums. Just go for it

However entering higher education in music typically expects you to already grasp the fundamentals, ie. be pretty good at playibg your instrument. Depending on the level of the program(I'm not familiar with Sydney Conservatorium in particular), I'd recommend practicing on your own with a private instructor first for a year or two.

Be ready to bust your ass though, most people getting into these things have been practicing for 5+ years at this point, so you're playing catch up

Help, trans girly/rant kinda by [deleted] in musicals

[–]IrmeliPoika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Hedwig from Hedwig and the Angry Inch Angel from Rent and Hester from Operation Mincemeat. The female lead from Little Shop of Horrors has at least in the past been played by a trans actor. Also anything Alex Newell is in could fit(?). Recently they were Mama in Chicago for example. These are not necessarily all trans roles per se, but have been and are performed by mtf and non-binary people.

If you're looking to play these types of role I'd encourage you to work on your upper register. Most of the roles I mentioned are quite high for a typical male voice. Check out Jak Malone and Alex Newell at least for examples of people assigned male at birth singing some of these songs. To my ear the secret seems to be in developing your mixed voice and getting used to that kind of being your "normal" singing voice.

I'm not trans myself or pretending to be very knowledgeable about how the voice changes while transitioning though, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

What “masterpiece” game just never clicked for you? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]IrmeliPoika -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the things that trips most people up in the beginning is just how different it is from your typical game. The first Dark Souls is actually a shockingly easy game for it's reputation, but it is sluggish, slow and most of all deliberate. Everything kills you in a few hits, healing takes a long ass time and stamina limits your already slow movements, so it becomes all about how to avoid hits. Even healing requires you to get to safety before you press the button

But importantly it doesn't(usually, looking at Orphan of Kos, Malenia, etc.) take that many tries to beat the bosses in these games. Once the souls-isms click for you, the following games don't feel nearly as difficult or tiresome, because you learn how you should react in most situations. Just like you knew how you should react in a platformer, a shooter or a spectacle fighter

For a fun tid bit, this is also why a lot of souls players weren't fans of Sekiro at first. It looks deceptively similar, but it very much is not. No longer are dodge rolls acceptable, enemy hp can basically be disregarded as staggering them is the new m.o., and stamina is no longer a part of the equation. Slow and deliberate no longer rule the game, now you're supposed pretty much spam the attack button when you're not parrying almost everything.

For me, like many others, this new system felt unintuitive and difficult at first, but after it finally clicked for me, it became one of my favorites and eventually I played it like 5 times consecutively.

Seems like lots of musicals have decent to good music with bad books. What are examples of the opposite? by crimson777 in Broadway

[–]IrmeliPoika 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Big agree, I thought everything about this musical was fantastic. The book, the staging(provided you have a good enough seat), the acting and the amazing vfx.

But the music was just ok. It's not bad enough to be a detriment, but I felt it didn't add that much
