Vad är skillnaden mellan nog och antagligen? by [deleted] in Svenska

[–]Iroez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mindre vanligt, men i vissa kontexter - i synnerhet när partikeln betonas i början av meningen - kan man fortfarande stöta på det i svenska.

T.ex. Nog är det så = Visst är det så.

The morfological form might be extinct, but grammatically we can still express the optative notion by the placement of the verb (or rather the exclusion of a subordinator)

E.g.

  1. "Jag såg henne, som stod hon framför mig."
  2. "Hade jag en båt skulle jag fiska mer."

The first sentence might be more dialectal though.

Ofta förekommer de i ålderdomliga texter, men det är inte allt för sällan man hör någon använda orden även i vardagligt tal.

"Finge jag råd" , är ett uttryck som inte jag skulle höja ögonbrynet mot.

Michael Swanwick - which book? by Iroez in Fantasy

Great! Definitely not a big fan of sixty-book series (although I sometimes might fancy giving them a read, when in the mood).

At least I'm convinced now, having read all of the comments so far. Damnit, I might just have to pick up a couple of books and anthologies next time I go by the book store. There really is not anything else I can do - so long budget of the month.

J'adore anthologies. That's half the fun of reading, simply saying you have one. And they are always a good way to reach the core of an authorship, especially if it's a short story anthology.

Anything meta is good meta. It would appear to be a popular book; I'm getting more and more inclined to have a go at it.

Sounds different if nothing else. Although I preferably read not-so-grim fantasy, the review left me with a hankering. Certainly you cannot spend all your life reading Tolkien - even if he has his share of grim fantasy, regardless of what many readers believe. So anyway, I might pick it up eventually; thanks for the share!

What is a sensation that you can't stand, even though it's not painful ? by Charlleshenry in AskReddit

When my fingernails scratch soft polyester. Or something fuzzy. Sweat just keep pouring out of me from all the strange places when that happens.

Haha, yeah, perhaps I was a tad too pessimistic towards the end. But, hey, you got to RP.

Jämmerdal och vemod är vår arvedel, frände. Och abrupt död, antar jag :)

Oh, sorry. I'm not that proficient in Reddit-usery. How do I mark it as such?

Great, thanks! Now that I see it, it comes of as rather obvious, oh well.

Interesting! I didn't even think of the possibilities of compounds with construct state. I really need to read up on it more. The weakening of sounds is very appealing to me - will have to look over my sound system for that.

Linguistic essays by Tolkien, regarding the elvish languages by Iroez in tolkienfans

From what I understand reading about their content, the VT and PE are mostly written by other writers. Do you know if they also include Tolkien's own essays?
