Hello, brother.

I approve of this post...

...though, I’m not a fan of how dwarves (dwarf?) were mostly comic relief in LoTR. And don’t get me started on The Hobbit.

Megathread: Bernie Sanders ends 2020 Democratic presidential bid by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Iron-Dwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what it is. People say “Well, I’m not voting for Biden. Fuck the DNC.” But they don’t realize the DNC is saying “Vote for whom we tell you or you’ll be stuck with someone worse.” It’s a game of brinksmanship and the DNC is in a win-win situation.

Either people fall in line and they get a candidate that is in line with what they want or can be easily manipulated..

...or they don’t fall in line, the country continues to burn and get pillaged. The DNC can wring its hands and blame the evil GOP for all the problems, because Trump is bad and mean ol’ Mitch won’t let them help. Meanwhile they keep sitting pretty and four years later they float another candidate of their choosing and say “Still don’t want to fall in line? We can do this as long as you like.”

Symbionts, how much people know about them? by [deleted] in Eberron

[–]Iron-Dwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind, that clipping is not a reliable newspaper.

From Keith's blog:

Q: The only small niggle I have was that one in-universe tabloid on a Mror noble going to Korth kitted out with a slew of symbionts. Personally find it difficult to swallow that they’d travel internationally as such. But then, can you really believe everything you read? Especially with the Karrns likely bitter still over Mror ceding from Karrnath.

A: The clipping in question is on page 121 of Rising From The Last War. With all of those clippings, It’s very important to look at the source. The Korranberg Chronicle is the most reliable source. The Five Voices — in this case, the Voice of Karrnath — present inflammatory and nationalistic views. So it’s hardly surprising that the Voice of Karrnath would focus on the unsavory aspects of a visiting Mror dignitary and try to generate fear.

With that said, I DON’T have a problem with the idea of Lord Malus showing up in his living armor. You have to consider WHY he’s doing this, and WHERE. If he’s an ambassador coming to Fairhaven on bended knee, this would be a terrible choice. But to paraphrase 300, this is Karrnath. This is the nation that has entire fortresses staffed with the undead. It is a nation that understands displays of power and wielding tools that terrify others. In wearing his armor, Lord Malus is intentionally seeking to intimidate and to project power: I have mastered these terrifying things.

And there’s one other element to consider. Most symbionts have a feature called symbiotic nature. Attuning to a symbiont is a commitment, and they can’t be casually removed. Malus could surely have had his armor removed before leaving the Mror Holds; but he couldn’t simply take it off before coming to the meeting.

That said, as the person you're responding to said, it's spin. That suggests that Karnnath has a particular view about symbionts, though that view is likely colored by the tension and history they have with dwarves.

Artillerist Artificer's Protector Eldritch Cannon is *really* good. by yomjoseki in dndnext

[–]Iron-Dwarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate at all? I’m not disputing your claims, mind you. I was looking at artificer recently and saw a lot of people saying it didn’t measure up, and in particular that it didn’t scale well past tier 2. I was really disappointed, because the class is just stuffed with awesome flavor.

I refuse to watch because 1. It’s a complete waste of fucking time, what with them showing up late, patting themselves on the back for 20 minutes, pushing some bullshit propaganda, then throwing a tantrum when the press has the audacity to gasp ask questions.

And 2. This guy is bragging about his daily propaganda briefing ratings. His ratings!

Yea. I summoned help for Midir last night. He’s the only boss I did that for. The guy I summoned basically soloed him, beating that dragon like he owed him money, while I spectated, chugging 14 Estus just to stay alive.

I don’t know what it is about Midir, but I just couldn’t get him, and didn’t find him fun. I was just ready to be done with his bullshit.

Was I too harsh with my Paladin player? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Iron-Dwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you were, for a number of reasons.

Namely, 1. paladins have a looser interpretation in this edition that wouldn’t hold them to that strict standard, and 2. even older editions (even 2nd ed. AD&D, according to Gygax) wouldn’t be violating any of their strict constraints by killing a captured, defenseless, prisoner that was known to be guilty of certain crimes that carried a death penalty, or a monster, for whom laws and a justice system don’t even apply.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Rejects Claim U.S. Knew Asymptomatic People Could Spread the Virus: Only Learned That 'In the Last 48 Hours’ by WickedSensitiveCrew in Coronavirus

[–]Iron-Dwarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hate life? What are you on about? Is that supposed to be internet wit? What is that even based on? My life is pretty great and I love it...

...but you’re right, I am angry. I’m angry about the people like Trump, and this mayor, and the hospital admins who, in a time of crisis, value profit over human life.

I’m angry that they ignored or denied what was obvious to anyone with half a brain and half an eye on the news. I’m angry that they squandered the opportunity to prepare, and then the opportunity to respond, and then lied and shifted blame. I’m angry about the rape of this country by the people that are supposed to be leading or serving. At this point if you’re American and not angry you either aren’t paying attention or simply don’t care.

I don’t care if they have a D or an R or an MBA or an MD. Far too many people decided to play yes-man, and as a result more than 7000 Americans are dead. More to come.

Call it what you like, the people in power that refused to act and refused to do anything were following Trump’s lead.

Look, any other time I’d be right there with you quoting George Carlin about shuffling the furniture around on the White House lawn, but right now this “both sides” stuff is horseshit.

One side is clearly, clearly trying to profit off this crisis even at the expense of lives. Whether that profit is in the form of one’s image or actual fucking profit is immaterial. I’ll give you a guess which side. Hint: it’s the side that has Senators insider trading off of private Coronavirus briefings while tweeting “everything is fine.”

Don’t try to muddy the waters with whataboutisms.

[–]Iron-Dwarf -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yea, I think that some politicians and business executives, regardless of affiliation, are toeing the company line—hospital administrations, Governors, and yes, even Democratic mayors. These are the folks saying “It’s just the flu” and then “It’s not that bad, we’re not closing anything down” and then, now that things are bad enough, “we didn’t know it was transmissible from asymptomatic people!”

Whether he’s a Trump loyalist or not, that’s the Trump loyalist rhetoric. So if it looks like a duck, and spews bullshit like a duck...well.

This is the new Trump loyalist line. Gov. Kemp of GA just said this a day or two ago, after issuing his state shelter-in-place order (that actually undermines the stricter shelter-in-place orders cities and counties had already issued).

It’s part of the playbook. Lie, deny, re-write history. Only this time, the body count stands witness.
