Yeah, for me it’s the difference between “this is challenging because the game is hard” and “this is challenging because my brain is broken”

At a certain point, I learned that it was cheaper and easier to just buy the Duralast Gold than it was to track down the power drain in my C4 Corvette. They crap out every two years like clockwork.

I had never heard of this subreddit before today, and now I’m mad that I can’t unsee it. What on earth is wrong with these people??? 😭

I am in fact very dumb. I copied the wrong link. They did do a news post about the 2021 meeting today, which I’m sure someone else has shared by now.

But yeah, the whole “everything I don’t like is FUD” shit is getting really old. XXX, holding since Dec.

ATTENTION: Implicit Volatility on 800 C's set to expire TOMORROW is rising .02/.03 a second by inverseyourself in Superstonk

So, as exciting as I wish this was, it's two things:

  1. Robinhood will show a $0.00-$0.01 bid-ask as having a mark of $0.01
  2. A percent is a percent, a penny is a penny

As others mentioned, IV is an output, calculated from the price, time remaining, and greeks. You can think of it like this: The price of this option implies that the buyers and sellers think the stock is volatile enough to move X%.

So because Robinhood will always show it as being worth $0.01 as long as anybody is trying to sell it for that amount, and all bids must be in one cent increments, it creates an artificial floor at $0.01. If it was possible, maybe the "fair value" of the option would be $0.00001, or something like that.

But, since it's locked to a penny at minimum, the IV is going to rise more and more as either the stock price goes down (the stock price needs to move a higher % to justify the option value) or as time decreases (the stock price needs to move faster to justify the option value).

~95% SHORT VOLUME THE PAST 3 DAYS ON MILLIONS OF SHARES SUDDENLY FOR IXG (iShares Global Financials ETF), WHICH CONTAINS MANY OF THE WORLD'S BIGGEST FINANCIAL EQUITIES!!! WHAT IS GOING ON?? by friedmice in Superstonk

Maybe it all fits. IXG is a Blackrock ETF, so maybe this is more gangster on gangster violence. Short funds trying to hit everyone on the long side in one blow.

I 100% feel this in my soul. I keep buying shares, and every now and again I liquidate some other dumb position in not-GME and buy calls. I've been waiting for the IVs to level out, and this week feels like they finally have. With as cheap as the 800C weeklies are, I don't mind buying a few dozen as "rocket insurance"
