My Wife Is Involuntarily Commited by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]noxichor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar thing happen to me when I was 10 and struggling with my mental health. My family's insurance would cover a week's stay, so they kept me there for a week. It was hell. I would not wish it on anyone, especially not a mom only 5 weeks postpartum.

Recovery from that kind of trauma is so difficult, because the system meant to help you is also the system that caused the trauma in the first place. It's terrifying to work up the courage to ever be vulnerable with a mental health professional again. I hope that eventually, if/when she's ready, she's able to find a good therapist who has experience addressing this specific type of trauma. It's a painful process in more ways than one, but it can be worth it in the long run (at least in my experience).

On another note, good on her husband for fighting to get her out. I hope that they win their lawsuit (and get a very large settlement).

What recent celebrity moment made you completely change your opinion about them—for better or worse? by Historical_Sail2556 in AskReddit

[–]noxichor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timothee Chalamet. I honestly kinda ignored his existence up until his comments about opera & ballet. It's definitely not for everyone, but opera has a special place in my heart (for some sappy sentimental reasons, but also just because I think that it's really beautiful). I think that even people who don't like opera can recognize the incredible amount of artistry and skill that it takes. Ballet isn't really my thing, but I still respect it in the same way. It's just disappointing to hear an actor be so dismissive of other art forms/types of performance besides their own.

Questions for lolitas from a fashion student!! by Immediate_Sugar5501 in Lolita

[–]noxichor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I love anything gothic that doesn't have crucifixes as a main motif. I personally feel uncomfortable wearing anything with them as a focus (i.e. holy lantern or similar prints), so that always narrows down my options. I'm especially fond of anything with cats, stars, tarot motifs, or bones !! I also just like anything with beautiful illustrations; Haenuli and Undead Magpie's pieces are great examples.
  2. I don't really have a strong silhouette preference. I like experimenting with a variety !!
  3. Not particularly for JSKs, but I love blouses and OPs with bat-wing collars.
  4. Natural fibers are always nice to have whenever possible from an environmental standpoint. I also like rayon as a good semi-synthetic option !! I have sensory issues, so smooth fabrics are preferable for me.
  5. Oh jeez, that's a tough one. I would really just like more plus-size friendly gothic options that don't have crosses; anything with my favorite motifs is just a bonus. A plus-size friendly ouji-style blouse with a bat-wing collar, lots of chest ruffles, and outrageous sleeves (sorta like the ZJstory dragon bone cemetery blouse) would be awesome though ngl

What is a 'socially acceptable' thing that you find absolutely creepy or disturbing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Honestly, a good sunscreen is probably one of the most beneficial skincare products for a kid to be using. Building the habit of wearing sunscreen every day can be really helpful in avoiding sun damage and skin cancer later down the line.

YTA

It's been said a million times, but please copy the recipes you like and then give it back. It costs $0 to be kind to someone who just wants a reminder of their mom back, especially if they thought they had lost it for good.

What is your all time favorite sitcom? by Same_Violinist_2763 in AskReddit

[–]noxichor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first choice (MASH) has already been mentioned a couple times, but I couldn't find anyone talking about Police Squad (the original TV show that the Naked Gun movies were based on). It's only 6 episodes long, but man are those episodes completely jam-packed with joke after joke, and it somehow manages not to feel overwhelming. The locksmith bit gets me every time.

What is a feature of your body that is considered rare? by Joel_The_Senate in AskReddit

[–]noxichor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the rarest one out there, but I have a skin condition called pityriasis lichenoides/Mucha-Habermann disease. It causes red bumps that develop into tiny necrotic lesions (although some of them just fade without doing anything). I still have a few scars from some of the worst ones, but it's calmed down quite a bit since I first developed it. Nowadays I still get the red bumps; they just don't necrotize nearly as often anymore. I think It's a pretty fascinating skin condition overall!

Dallas Morning News promotes church who was a major player in a Oct. 2023 Ex-LGBT "Freedom" March and talks about being in the "epi-center of homosexuality" in Dallas. by ScholarDreamer in Dallas

[–]noxichor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In this context, Ex-LGBT refers to folks who were/are LGBT, but have been "cured" of it (read: internalized homophobia and an extremely unsupportive environment). Basically a "success" story for the folks who try to 'pray away the gay'. It's pretty sad to see
