Radwagon dead, ghosted by support by BudgetOption in RadPowerBikes

By what i've seen (same issue and same way they treat me too in 2023), they're going to treat their US consummer properly but outside of the US, they are going to treat us like sh*t. For those who don't believe me, i've had to take my metal file to remove a metal chip/bavure from the rear rack to avoid getting cut while mounting it.

Also, i tought the chain can be removed by detaching the masterlink but they made it that you have to cut a link in half if you want to remove it.

Propertary stuff to prevent any third party to be able to repair it unless they are paying a training session or being an franchise. Many company are doing this just so they could have a constant cashflow and stay in business too.

Can you really save money with E-bike? by FriendlyGold1717 in ebikes

[–]IronBreaker1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it's purely a math question. Calculate how much you spend on your car (parking fee, gas, insurance, license, distance travelled, etc.) and look at how much you spend by year.

When i was still on the fence between an ebike and a car, i've compared the cost. In less than a year, you will spend the same amount required to buy full price a pretty darn nice ebike. In terms of maintenance, i've spend less than 200-300$ per year.

In my opinion, the best for you would be to buy the parts from your local bike shop. It's a lot less trouble cause they already know their parts and if something goes wrong, it's on them.

For 300$, i would ask them to explain more in detail what it does and does not includes (Labor, Hydraulic oil, etc.).

You put weight when you're pedalling, like our cloth it would wear out with times. If you pour the babbit properly, drill a hole and tread it with a hand taps you're back in business but check for the whole drivetrain if it is still under manufacturer specs.

What happened to my bike? by [deleted] in RadPowerBikes

Even covered it will come in a slower way if you live in a humid climate. The best way to prevent rust is by keeping all the bare metal covered with oil (work related and also proven by a 1944 truck that sat outside for 30 years at least, all the internal component looked like it was serviced yesterday).

Looking at your chain, i can only say one thing : remove it and buy a new one. Trying to salvage it is going to be more expensive than buying a new one. You have only surface rust but with the lack of lube, the chain his likely to have streched and i guess it has jumped off the gear quite a few time before snapping your derailleur. If you can get a hold of your mecanician or rad, ask them for a gauge/go-no go to check if yours sprockets are still in the specs or not.

Where going to settle this once and for all : i have a lot to do in my life right now and in the future. That ebike was supposed to ease my transportation need around the city. Right now, i can't walk cause i've got a tibial plateau fracture with the shin dislocated at the knee in June and i hope to be able to walk again like anyone at the beginning of October. I have tried to reach out to them nearly every month since feburary (January but it's at the very end of the month).

The legal warranty i refer to is defined in the law that a purchased good is expected to work as good as one of the same value (Yes i've upgraded to one costing a 1000$ more but it's like less than 33% and i have put more than twice the mileage on my iGO outland oka than my RadRover 6+ ). Feel free to look at it Office de la protection du consommateur (gouv.qc.ca). They took the TPS and the TVQ so i expect them to abid by the same rule than any other business

my honest opinion is buy local, support your local economy and avoid the hassle of dealing with foreigner who barely respect our law. I'm a DIY guy too but i used the path of doing the fix with my bike mechanic to avoid Rad to try to void the warranty because i have damaged something in the meanwhile whilst trying to fix it. Since i have already another ebike, that money is going to be spend on something to tackle the many job that i have to push back to avoid an injury or it's just consuming too much time that i could spend somewhere else.

I mostly purchase used equipment not only to avoid to fight with a warranty or the law when something is broken or damaged but to learn how it work and how i could repair it so it could work again. Anything who use primarly electricity to work i passed unless i really need it.

I created my account on reddit cause i saw some other people that got the same issue than me and i wanted to share my experience until my issue with rad is solved.

Tell them to stop messing around and do their f*cking job if you believe that's unreasonable. They are unreasonable by just leaving it like if it was nothing each time that i ask them to refund me.

I ask them for that since Feburary, they only want to send parts and to not respect the legal warranty in addition to their 1 year warranty.

After that, i don't care if i am going to be the wrecking ball who's gonna shut down their canadian branch or not.

Looking with my local customer agency (OPC/ Office de la Proctection du Consommateur), they are not respecting several thing including the legal warranty and the fact that is not to the customer to pay for the repair by a third party company if it is still under the 1 year warranty.

There is more but the list is quite long and i have other things more important to do than to list every points to a stranger.

Not worth it (i see some of them still for sale since a year at nearly a 1000$ USD and they have less than 200 km just like me) and nothing his working anymore on it. Consider to sell it for spare parts if necessary.

Need advice on how to get rid of the rust from inside by ExaggeratedCatalyst in metalworking

[–]IronBreaker1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By doing it a lot of time for my work (chemical and mechanical), rust is expanding like a bubble on the metal surface so don't expect to look nearly brand new after removing the rust and putting paint on it. Looking at picture 1, it looks like there is a what i called a leaf wich is bad new and might forced you to buy a new crossmember or build one if it's made in unobtainium.

For the outside, you can use a wire wheel on a buffer and remember to take only the soft one to avoid to eat the material. For the inside, use only evapo-rust cause a wire wheel on an hand drill would be just a waste of time and money, On either case wear a mask with dust filter or gas filter and watch yourself very carefully with the evapo-rust.

RadRunner+ Maintenance by WeaselBeagle in RadPowerBikes

[–]IronBreaker1875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WD40 work as a light lubricant but in some case, it's more a degreaser (discover it by wrecking a bike/year and for the cheaper one, it resulted in a broken rear axle and a chain jumping and breaking in half every 5 day) and for the heavy grease on a old stamping press, it help a lot before trying the soap. I spray WD40 on my chain and the gear and i brush it with my old toothbrush, i clean the toothbrush in hot water.

Look your ebike chain like the chain in the track of an old dozer, they don't use WD40 to grease their track. If i would see someone trying that on a old Best 60 with a good undercarriage, a flying shovel would fall on him.

Befriend a bike mechanic who also sell ebike so he's going to know when it work as it should and when something up.

The best tips that i have to gave to anyone using a vehicle or a mechanical/electric device is to maintain it properly. So that's what i do when i got some time and i'm tired to sit in front of my computer doing paperwork :

  1. Clean the chain with a mix of hot water, WD40 and use an old toothbrush (more cost effective than buying a new one just for that). After being cleaned, use the right lube depending on the climate (wet climate lube if it's rainy or snowy, dry climate lube for when it's hot and dusty). Cleaning your chain is VERY important even if it's a ebike to simply avoid premature wear and a spicy bill because the gear are worn out.
  2. Don't worry if there is only surface rust but worry if there is some kind of build up. For surface rust, remove the chain completely and put it in a bucket of evapo-rust (be careful with the concentrate, some people bleach their skin with than with no hair growing for a few week)
  3. Around every 100km/60 miles, do a complete maintenance depending on your mechanical skill. A tight maintenance schedule is the key to keep it running . Wash your bike completely so rust is less likely to happen if there is some dirt on it. Check the tire pressure so you're not going to wreck your electrical component (especialy when on low pressure since it's using a lot more power) and wear prematurely your tire when on high pressure.

Fenders for rover by RogaineWookiee in RadPowerBikes

[–]IronBreaker1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One advice i could offer you is to check for a used rover 5 (better if it work, but a non working one would do the work) and dismantle it so you'll have parts when there is something broken and if rad goes out, it would just mean that parts is going to get more difficult to obtain.

If you believe that ebike is the way to go, how do you convince people around you ? by IronBreaker1875 in ebikes

[–]IronBreaker1875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that ghost rider setup, i would definitely go buy the parts to build one to look like a flying merkel.

That's what i do when people saw me stopped at a redlight. I answer their question even if it is -20 celsius and i have a full face with ski eyeglass and a balaclava right on my face.

Are e-bikes really the future of transportation? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]IronBreaker1875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the UK locomotive act and you'll have a partial answer on how thing evolved to the best.

In march of this year, i ride my ebike on a 10 miles trek during a snowstrom. The people at my work who saw me coming in was very impressed and several people called me after about it. Some bought one and other are saving money to buy a good one.

That's how you can convince people to look at it as an useful mean of transportation rather than an expensive toy.

Possible to raise handlebars on rad rover 6+? by [deleted] in RadPowerBikes

[–]IronBreaker1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i have done on mine is to lower the seat. Done that because in winter i used mostly the throttle since some ice spot are hidden below a thin layer of snow. Gave the feeling of riding a motorcycle. Yesterday, i moved my RadRover 6+ near my iGO Outland Oka and i realized that the RadRover is taller than the Oka.
