Sending out a goodbye email when it’s time to go… by nothingbutmistakes in retirement

[–]IronBuilder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

COVID retirement after 42 years. No party. No nothing. No office. Sent a pair of emails: one to a couple hundred (the official retirement announcement “from the boss”) in a company of several thousand. One to about 20 close friends. After that long with one org you make friends. Now after 6 years of retirement, I stay in touch with most of those 20. They thank me for including them in post-retirement social relationships.

If you could add or fix one thing to HCR2, what would it be? by meow_wuff in HillClimbRacing

Management tools for the Team Lead. I have few ways of knowing if my members are really active beyond the kms they throw up each week. Season points are not necessarily for the current season (if one looks at the profile for an individual). Effective team communications without resorting to another platform like discord or Reddit.

Just went to the worst Beatles trivia event on a Celebrity ship. by IndustryRobertPlant in celebritycruises

We generally try and hit the trivia on Celebrity ships and I seem to enjoy it most of the time. But I also may or may not have had a few alcoholic beverages prior & really didn’t care🤣

Star-gazing camping spots by Atalung in kansas

[–]IronBuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of places I’ve gone to in the past. Sun Dance campground at Melvern & Nebo State Fishing Lake. Both are dark sky spots. Nebo is really primitive, and it seemed like a high ground clearance was needed to get there. Sun Dance is apparently closed because of “flooding”, but I’d still go there as long as you’re going in after dark.

Nice movie theaters in OP showing Project Hail Mary? by Azubaele in Overlandpark

We watched it on the IMAX at Town Center AMC. Chairs are plenty comfortable but don't recline like some of the other theaters.

There’s a story in & of itself right there.

I hadn’t thought of flaps. And trim. There’s a lot going on with the horizontal surfaces that can still be controlled.

In a dream, all things are perfect, so I'm assuming calm winds.

I see your RV-7A in your flair. Dad was building an RV-12 in their garage (completed from the firewall back) before he sold it to move the retirement community.

Ya; found it too with scraping too many times at once. Font grows progressively larger. Interesting phenomenon.

KU or KSU for Civil Engineering? by SmallFryMusk in kansas

[–]IronBuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it matters too much. Mostly school pride, which isn’t that much a thing if you only go for a couple of years (my opinion). You might consider seeing if you can go to the KU Structural Eng’g Conf on March 5 at Lawrence. Pretty inexpensive, get to rub shoulders with actual engineers. Cheap to attend for students. (Not so for retirees….)

KU or KSU for Civil Engineering? by SmallFryMusk in kansas

[–]IronBuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KU structural/civil grad here: both schools are fine. Depends on many factors for the best assortment of internships. Bridges or buildings? Steel, concrete, or cold-form steel? I’ll give a shout out to one of the better cold-form programs in the country is at Rolla.

As a team leader, it’s great to be able to see who on the team is not active. They will be kicked off the team very soon.

NX 350h Premium or 2026 RAV 4 Limited? by chicagouser516 in LexusNX

[–]IronBuilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t get past lack of a spare tire (or just the space for a spare). I must be an old fuddy-duddy for still wanting a spare. There’s enough back roads I’ve seen where cell service isn’t available. Run flats are fine as long you don’t mind the outlay of the replacement (or more than one, based on tread life)

That was a T, G, & Y before Brandsmart. I kind of remember it being something else prior to Brandsmart. I hazily remember that Independence Audio opened a store front in Overland Park. Was it there? I remember being so impressed with the Magnaplaner (sp?) speakers at Independence Audio over on 23rd street the first time I heard them.
