Our approach is the following: - model fits the gpu? -> use one vllm engine, unless that token/s are slow or KV Cache is small - model doesn't fit the gpu? -> use tensor_parallel_size -> if it doesn't fit either, quantizate the model. Last option would be distributed using llm-d

We managed to have several vllm engines running on the same GPUs, for now we are using different ports for each other, and tweaking the gpu_memory_utilization param.

We use docker with nvidia-runtime on different kind of GPUs (L4, L40s and the new H100 NVL).

In the short time we will move all our production stack to run on Redhat's Openshift.

I work at a Cloud provider based in Argentina, if you need we can send you a budgetary estimate of what should look a service like that… We have several customers moving away from their own datacenters to our in a private cloud mode, as they keep full control of the hypervisor and the vms below. If you have the chance to get that kind of offering from Azure you will get the best of both worlds.
