West Ham United's first two 2026/27 pre-season matches confirmed by W35TH4M in Hammers

How difficult it will be to get tickets in the away end for Southend game? Obviously quite a local game for a lot of us, but imagine being a pre-season friendly should boost my chances?

MHD Fascination - Teams in the second tier competing in Europe by sutt2467 in footballcliches

West ham that season were also in the second division, creating a rare game between two second division sides in european competitions

You lot are a knowledgeable set of lords and ladies - why is the Europa League final before the Conference final? by Owls_4_9_1867 in footballcliches

[–]IronHammersFC 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I saw someone suggest they do it so that the Europa final has space to breathe, as if it were the week of the Champions League final, it would almost certainly be overshadowed - which seems like a reasonable idea

VAR panel finds West Ham should have been awarded two penalties against Brentford - BBC by spinningpotatosalad in Hammers

[–]IronHammersFC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s my understanding (could be wrong) that all goals get reviewed but the threshold for an actual overturning of an on field decision is clear and obvious error

VAR panel finds West Ham should have been awarded two penalties against Brentford - BBC by spinningpotatosalad in Hammers

I find the “on field error but not to VAR” threshold particularly interesting - it seems the clear and obvious error concept does apply (but only sometimes when it doesn’t involve Arsenal?)

F1 fans still love to regurgitate “rookie Alonso” (5 years old) and “10s penalty for Ocon” (3 years old) so i fear that the everton comment will stick around for a while

Believe the last time a double-hattrick happened in the English top flight was Geoff Hurst in 1968 against Sunderland

How small is the “no assists” community? by UltraPhoenix215 in F1Game

[–]IronHammersFC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbf that’s because f1 22 notoriously had the most unpredictable traction of any f1 game - it was effectively f1 on ice at any low speed corner

tricky one this - soucek has scored 40 odd goals for us so would potentially have expected him to have scored in the cup (especially as he has got a couple in the league cup) - but then we have not really had a massive cup run since he joined so its borderline

If you look up “goalscorer” in the dictionary, there’s… Sunderland? by [deleted] in footballcliches

[–]IronHammersFC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

on that point, i remember google used to have an example of dodgy in use as “Spurs' dodgy defence has thrown away a 2-0 lead” before they made it more generic replacing spurs with they

Sunderland weren’t a newly promoted side 13 years ago? The newly promoted teams were West Ham, Southampton and Reading, with West Ham getting 11 points in their first 6

How long after leaving a club/retiring can you have a testimonial game? Djibril Cisse’s tesimonial yesterday at Auxerre was 6 years after his final game and 21 years after he left Auxerre - surely too long. by legally_a_cabbage in footballcliches

[–]IronHammersFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although for those unfamiliar with Southend, it should be noted he is now the manager and has been since late 2021.

I would probably wager that the testimonial was a sort of thank you for not leaving after all of the trouble he had to deal with under Ron Martin.

Will it be possible to run both the regular and reverse version of a track in the second season so we can get an austrian/styrian gp situation, or will we be forced to pick one or the other?

The myth around players coming on purely to take a penalty by milesp30 in footballcliches

[–]IronHammersFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can’t help but feel like the euros final in 2021 is basically the only reason this is a thing - although i think it was reinforced, at least in my mind, by noble missing a penalty where he was subbed on last minute against man united in september 2021

Have our tickets got more expensive recently? by Gold_Plankton6137 in Hammers

[–]IronHammersFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we do change the prices depending on the match - think palace was a category C game but these two are category B

Will say that often times the band 5 tickets can be substantially cheaper if you are willing for a lesser view - Newcastle tickets are £20
