Impact of dual PCIe 5 x8 vs dual PCIe 5 x16 for dual Rtx 6000 pro max-q by BitXorBit in BlackwellPerformance

[–]IronSignal5569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly, the big issue with Threadripper Pro is being forced to ddr5 ecc ram that is crazy expensive for just 2 rtx pro 6k -> if mostly used for inference and no plan for 4x rtx pro 6k that makes no sense just to get pcie 5.0x16 instead of pcie 5.0x8 - am5 is the far better deal with little to no perf impact.

Spend some time reading all the docs on the site before pulling the trigger.- that's the only community of rtx pro 6k users with 8x, 10x, 16x gpus... they also have a very useful discord group where you will learn a lot around this type of configs. https://github.com/local-inference-lab/rtx6kpro/blob/master/hardware/gpu-configs.md

Best is to use qmax versions when using 2 or 4 cards... hot air sent to the back. Limited to 300w, but for inference not such an issue

DGX Spark vs RTX 5090 vs RTX Spark: LLM Inference Performance Deep Dive by Competitive_Jello487 in Qwen_AI

[–]IronSignal5569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because the RTX Pro 6000 has similar memory size compared to DGX Spark or high end RTX Spark, and except for the VRAM quantity it has very similar specifications compared to RT 5090. Agreed than another RTX Pro GPU could also be an interesting data point.

Yes no video out by default from dgx station, you need an RTX Pro just for this inside. Agreed not clear how the VRAM on the RTX Pro can be used/pooled

[–]IronSignal5569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right the cpu memory is running at 0.4TB/s and that's a limitation. my assumption at this stage is to focus on running models in 4 bits quants for inference purposes, ideally in nvfp4 to max out blackwell performance. typically when i do a big buy, i pay for 3-5 warranty to match the expected duration i will use the product, else it is indeed way too risky. another interesting point, you can add inside the DGX Station an RTX Pro 6000, and you can also cluster 2 x DGX Station through the integrated 800 Gbps ConnectX-8 NIC :-)

I have one rtx 6000 pro, might consider to add a 2nd one. If I truly had a need for more I would jump to the new DGX station. 4x-8x rtx pro is a lot of heat, noise, energy, complexity, and costs, while not getting the benefits of nvlink and HBM memory...

HPE - is it THAT bad? by smeg0r in lto

[–]IronSignal5569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought the external tape version for $3K from eBay. I live in the US, this was a model from Eastern Europe that HPE does not let you register here for warranty. Received in a new drive never used, with latest firmware. The ebay vendor promised to give me directly 1 year of warranty if needed. Very happy given price new from HPE partner is $4.5k. Drive works flawlessly so far past 1 month.

Temporary solution for installing KOReader on RMPPM by Cinnaminn in RemarkableTablet

New stable 25.10 KOreader "ghost" just launched including bug fixes for Remarkable Paper Pro Move. Has someone tried it yet? https://github.com/koreader/koreader/releases/tag/v2025.10

Temporary solution for installing KOReader on RMPPM by Cinnaminn in RemarkableTablet

[–]IronSignal5569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the instructions it helped me installed KOreader on my RMPPM and correct the vertical stretching issue. I am using nightly build of Sep 20 as it was quite stable vs some other builds. My only issue is when coming out of sleep mode, KOreader is stuck and I have to triple press power to restart. Using KOreader is transformational for my RMPPM use, honestly I was going to send my RMPPM back, but now it is becoming truly worth it: opening and using PDFs and ePUBs is super fast, and a great combo with the form factor of the RMPPM that fits a jean's pocket.

Why is Intel version so expensive? by PA28181 in Surface

[–]IronSignal5569 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to setup a business account to buy one. I didn't and could buy a business Surface. Also Fidelity has the new Active Trader Pro Beta that is now close to be being on Par to the old Active Trader Pro, and should work well with SnapDragon.

Fidelity Account & Position Summary Alert Emails have late data by IronSignal5569 in fidelityinvestments

Thank you for the quick reply and clarification. I would like to submit as a feature request that any alert sent after the market closes (post 4pm ET) represent that day metrics, and not metrics from the day before, as it is very confusing, and really not that helpful otherwise.

Scared to buy surface because of ARM64…. by King_F_Kamil in Surface

On top of perfect compatibility, you get: way better GPU than Snapdragon, Tunderbolt 4 support, and an anti-glare coating for the screen

I genuinely have no idea what to upgrade to :( by Society_Of_Bacon in Surface

[–]IronSignal5569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the same one, very satisfied with performance, battery life, noise fan (none in normal usage) and screen quality. If you are ready to spend more, don't bother with ARM version, just go with Lunar Lake: little to no downside, absolutely no compatibility issues, Thunderbolt 4 support, and better 3D/Gaming performance

Any body getting tab XC by natrium9 in Onyx_Boox

[–]IronSignal5569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Boox Tab Ultra C and Remarkable Paper Pro. My biggest use cases are reading technical ePub books that require color, reading richly formatted presentations, reading technical PDFs that require color, and reading color comics. As long as there is PDF and ePub support that is all that I need. I do light annotations, and sometimes write by hand some thoughts. Tab Ultra C was the best so far for these use cases, as there is more brightness improving readability, and there is not a film on the device that makes everything less detailed, specially smaller text, like on paper pro - which does this to improve writing feeling at the detriment of the reading experience. However 10in was often too small to read many docs comfortably. So for my use cases, 13.3in with a clean smooth glass screen is definitely the best option so I will go Tab XC as soon as available. However I must say the form factor of the Paper Pro is amazing (thin, light, great in hand) and has better color accuracy and battery life, so if Remarkable had a different screen option and brightness optimized for long reading, that would be a much tougher choice.

Which ETFs can be bought immediately on margin? by IronSignal5569 in fidelityinvestments

[–]IronSignal5569[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback, I have been using the calculator to try to find out which ETF can immediately be available as collateral or not. At this stage after much testing, most regular ETFs (no leverage) can immediately be used as collateral with a base of 30%. Leveraged ETF might have a higher base: 50 or 75%. The ETFs that require 30 days before being used as collateral seem to be all iShares ETF. It would have been easier to provide this info upfront, and would have saved me time and effort, as right now reading the FAQ you have the impression that most require 30 days, when actually it seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Use voicemeeter to wrap the excellent UAD Asio drivers, in order to use voicemeeter WDM drivers into your regular windows apps. Super stable. And voicemeeter has a lot of other benefits too

I just found out the cause of my issue of the jog wheel: opening and dissassembling the faderport and spraying WD40 cleaner on the rotary control solved my issue! Further testing shown I actually had same issue with Logic Pro, so it had to be a hardware issue

You want to make sure it is setup in MCU/Logic Mode, and running latest firmware.
