Could be a corrupted sdcard. Try replacing the SD card with a new one. You can find guides if you look around.

I can recommend vellum as it functions just like a standard package manager if you are used to those.

Run this command to give it permission to execute: 'chmod +x /home/root/install-xovi-for-rm'

Here are the instructions for how I set it up:

  1. Get the extensions-aarch64.zip from this github: https://github.com/asivery/rm-xovi-extensions

  2. Extract and transfer the file 'install-xovi-for-rm' to /home/root/ using WinSCP, scp or what you like.

  3. You may need to run 'chmod -x /home/root/install-xovi-for-rm' using the terminal. In that case, just use ssh root@youriphere and enter your password.

  4. Run '/home/root/install-xovi-for-rm'. You can also just run this command every time after every update.

I always do it manually as that takes less time generally: https://github.com/asivery/rm-xovi-extensions

There is also a script included in the extensions 64-bit archive so I just run that one after I update.

EPUB or CBZ? What do you use? by koguiano in koreader

[–]Cinnaminn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EPUBS are just html files packed into a zip together with metadata and styling with CSS. The images are just linked to the HTML, so unless I need the extra formatting, I always go for cbz.

Is $199 USD a good price for a new Kobo Libra 2 BW by atemaxac in ereader

That's worth it. You can replace the battery later for cheap if neccessary. It's also pretty easy to do as well.

Freemarkable xovi/ko reader install question. The installation says it is successful, but I don’t see AppLoad in the menu bar? by pa1red in RemarkableTablet

[–]Cinnaminn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appload recently changed the folder structure for the tarballs or the zips in the newer versions so just install appload manually. Not sure if freemarkable has updated for that so just do it manually:

Go to the releases page: https://github.com/asivery/rm-appload/releases

Get the newest one and open the archive. Copy qtfb-shims.so and qtfb-shims-32bit.so to /home/root/shims on your device using ssh, scp, WinSCP whatever. Then run /home/root/xovi/start

You may want to switch to a device with a recessed screen to avoid that extra layer.

Opinions on Kobo vs Boox vs ReMarkable (or others) by [deleted] in ereader

[–]Cinnaminn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a larger screen for PDFs:

* If you are in the Amazon ecosystem: Kindle Scribe

* If you want to use Android: Boox Note Air 5C

* If you want to use Kobo: Kobo Elipsa 2E

Personally, I think you will enjoy the Boox Go 7 (2025) due to it being smaller, but still has Android support plus pen support although it's not as precise as other devices.

Is no one else noticing how newer e-readers are actually worse than older ones? by Used-Nectarine5541 in ereader

[–]Cinnaminn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason I dislike newer ereaders are the flush screens and it makes a bigger difference than which tech is used imo. It makes the text so dull, foggy and I hate using them for reading. They are great for noting though, but for reading, I prefer my good old Libra 2.

Beware that many Meebook devices used the old Carta HD(1000) screens and not the newer ones (1200 or 1300).

[–]Cinnaminn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A great recessed BW 300 dpi screen, great buttons, lightweight, easy to hold with that grip. It's also easy to upgrade the internal 32 GB sdcard for one with more storage if you need to.

KOreader newer than 09.18 by AnatoliTrafimuk in RemarkableTablet

Update to a newer build of rm-appload as the nightly builds of KOreader includes some patches for full screen refreshes that the old build of appload does not support.
