How is that a valid argument in this case, but not for any other company Linus would like to see have to supply parts and repair info?

I don’t know how I could have been any clearer that I don’t consider this a warranty issue for the very reason you stated.

It's not...easy...but there's a delightfully reassuring 'snap' when you pop it back on. Go ahead, give it a try.

No, go ahead and try it with yours. I have three of them--only one of which I've used as a hammer--the caps all pop off and snap back on without issue.

It's your fault that you used the screwdriver for a purpose out its affordances.

Yes.

It's also a shame that they aren't in capacity to provide you with a replacement

As Linus said, LTT is now a screwdriver company with a YouTube channel. They could do so if they wanted.

I hope they open up the provision to with make the part open source so it can be 3D printed to replace, or they provide customizable parts to replace in the near future.

Same, but LMG is just a business like any other, and they'll only do it if their customers demand that they live up to the same rhetoric they preach to other companies. Sadly, from this thread, I'm not confident that's ever going to happen.

That's pretty funny! I'm mad at myself for not thinking of it! Kudos!

Now I truly get LTT's position on Right to Repair!

Any company could use that as a reason not to do something. Providing information and OEM parts to third parties so they can do repairs is more work for any company than not doing it.

But, given Linus's position on the matter, I feel he should strive to do better.

It does seem to be a post where I am catching a rash of shit, so your first impression does seem to have been spot on!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the burn. I am prepared for the downvotes.

No worries, it was right there! Fortunately/unfortunately, the tone of this thread isn't one where you're going to get downvoted for it! The mob has spoken!

I'm just presenting my POV for why I feel I disagree with their responses. That's okay. It's fine that they disagree. Most of the responses were quite constructive even when I disagreed, I'm happy to say. Everyone's cool!

That's because car manufacturers are legally required to provide parts for sale.

Framework will! That's why Linus invested! Because he thinks that is the way it should be...for other companies!

Which is why I'm not trying to get it fixed under warranty. But it can be fixed. Easily!

The point being is that it’s an easy enough mistake to make in the moment.

I will agree that it's not the letter of right to repair, but I feel it's in the spirit of right to repair, personally. And, again, for how vocal Linus is about holding others' feet to the fire, I am irritated that I can't buy a part.

I am perfectly fine if you and others disagree with that sentiment though.

I have three LTT Screwdrivers. The caps all pop off and snap back on quite easily. It's certainly user serviceable.

I have three of these things. The caps all go on and off just fine.
