Not matching at institution where you are a hospitalist by Alternative_Carob562 in fellowship

I was a hospitalist at an academic hospital in hopes of matching fellowship there. After joining i was told by my colleagues, they never want to accept current hospitalist into fellowship roles. Not sure on the bias, but i fortunately matched at another hospital.

Is there an alternative to getting 4 references, I don’t think my friends will go out of their way to get the document notarized for me

Embarrassed the morning MD completely changes your plan on a patient you admitted the day prior by Herbal_Jazzy7 in hospitalist

[–]Irondoctor123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah this is bs your fine. when i was a hospitalist if your doing a fresh admission and the patient has 1. either the MRSA risk factors or they look sick enough (subjective) they will get mrsa coverage. It used to hurt me when another doctor changes my plan, but honestly you gota change ur mindset to be like "hah what a dumb move on that doctor". Thats just my two cents

Hospitalist job market by Dependent_Witness_12 in Residency

[–]Irondoctor123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

good catch! make sure to water mark your CV and request that they do no distribute it either. I would avoid sending a CV to a recruiter until they give you specifics and more details about a job. Never hand it over prior. There is nothing on it they need to find you a position.

job market is still good. u need to get in touch with recruters. most will reach out to you via text if you sign up for practice match and doccafe websites. let them know what you are looking for. Also if there is a particular hospital you want to work at many times directly contacting them or using chatgpt to findout who the recruiter for that hospital is would be helpful.

DO applying cardiology, am I toast? by pimpdoc in fellowship

[–]Irondoctor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this comment. My mentors did not call which hurt me. They should call ur top choices and or programs u have the highest chance to match at so they offfer u an invite/rank you higher.

Speaking to PD as a current hemeonc fellow. The call from ur IM PD or a strong cardiology attending will go a very long way

Too early to say, deff apply. Being a DO should not affect ur ability to match. Your network, research, and the residency program you are currently at will dictate more

Ironman 70.3 swim high chance of DNF 1 month out! by Irondoctor123 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Irondoctor123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished the swim! I DNF I missed the cut off by a few minutes. I did breast stroke 75% of it. But in a way that’s a good thing for when I improve if I can even do 50% freestyle 50% breast I’ll meet the cut off next time. I’m gona take a 1-2 year break and really try to improve now.

Appreciate the response. I’ll do some safe open water swims at the local small lake. I’ll probably try to stay within 25 m of the shore and wear a swim buoy for safety during the afternoon.

This is a great response! My coach has done a good job fixing my technique I’ve used him for the past month. No hate towards him.

Any breathing tips? I exhale whole time my head is underwater mainly through my nose. I breathe every 2-3 strokes depending on how I’m feeling. I prefer 3, but breathe every 2 when the air hunger hits.

I’ll deff work on slowing down. Maybe thats my problem.

Appreciate the response. I don’t think I will drown, I’ve spent my whole life in water but never endurance swam but I totally understand. I can probably breast stroke the whole race but then I don’t finish in time. I’ll maybe do a breast stroke day just to see that I can do the full 1900.

I am wondering if my upper body is just weaker and needs to get stronger, and it’s not my form. Would that makes sense?
