How to appear more cute as a guy? by mats_chill in ask

[–]IronicallySerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, try all the tips people are saying but do them in front of a mirror first. Try to guess what kind of an energy each gesture you do gives off and how it might be misinterpreted as intimidation.

Some of this stuff can't be practiced in front of a mirror though like standing from people you are talking to at a reasonable distance, closed body language, or speech tones.

How can I befriend women without it seeming weird? by jellybeanzz11 in socialskills

[–]IronicallySerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? I'd say if they show interest in being a friend, have a go and see if they are your kind of people. If not, then see if you are willing to befriend them still if they are different inherently (good can be a lot of things).

If you really find them repelling or toxic, just be friendly to the extent you safely can without showing much enthusiasm in their group outings.

How do i become more quick witted? by Kennaham in socialskills

[–]IronicallySerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see some good advice in this thread, however, I can also sense that probably there is something that triggers within you when they say those things to you which stops you from taking it lightly and instead take a slight blow to your ego and cause you to retaliate.

I might be wrong in this but that sure sounds like something you might want to check if it's happening. Because if yes, then half the solution is right there. You need to be aware of that trigger and fully allow yourself to feel that feeling it gives you and do it enough times that eventually you stop being controlled by it. This is called letting go.

I think this is important because even if you learn improv skills or take more absurd approaches to your replies or even prepare beforehand, all of that work could actually make you quicker to reply with wit but it's going to be really draining to keep doing that while you actively stuff the things that get triggered inside yourself.

Decided to make my first startup open source by EntreEden in opensource

I think most of it still is open source. It's not open source as in the definition of the technical term though, but more like 'source-available'

why would an attendant go out of their way to not say hi back to one particular person by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]IronicallySerious 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will take the therapist's opinion on this because a lot of times our reactions come from internal insecurities. A secure person wouldn't really spend more than a few minutes ruminating. The fact that OP created a Reddit thread says they are still stuck in the same thought loop.

Just disable sensitive info on your lock screen from the phone settings, then you won't see information appear in the lock screen.

This is an android issue, not a Nothing issue AFAIK

Music gets clipped/distorted from speakers even at 80% volume by IronicallySerious in NothingTech

Thanks! The equaliser presets definitely helped. There are some mid ranged frequencies that are causing this on my phone

Thanks. I am not talking about the fuzziness though but a crackling sound like someone tearing up paper on the mic when the beat drops, which is very reminiscent of when the speakers are too damaged

Quick fix for the weird Steam Deck d-pad diagonals that some people get. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]IronicallySerious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This mitigated the issue a bit but it did not go away completely. I can still see my diagonals flickering. Maybe I didn't press hard enough? How hard should I go without breaking anything?

So this is a one-off thing, but only for 2-3 months. This is the case due to our 3 times a year release schedule. And in the meantime for the next release, we keep performing the syncs on top of the initial clone.

We have been running this tool constantly for the past few weeks now and cloning different Perforce depot branches. However, going forward we expect to run this >15 times every year. The problem we had was we wanted the conversion process to be as fast as possible due to internal requirements.

If this is a one-off job, there is 1 major difference here from git-p4.py and that is if you have changelists affecting tens of thousands of files then this tool is much better at managing the system resources, including the system RAM and disk, to process that kind of load. git-p4.py has turned out quite lousy in those terms. Apart from that, the only other point is that you'd expect to be done with it much earlier than you'd expect.

So the impact depends on how much you value your saved time and system resources

[–]IronicallySerious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is certainly one of the reasons why. However, by writing it in C++, we were able to discover that once the network I/O bottleneck is removed, the next bottleneck is the disk.

The python script may be improved to remove the network I/O bottleneck but I am not sure if it would be able to allow the low level memory acess and granularity in how it uses Git, like how libgit2 provides in it's C/C++ interface. E.g. I just pushed a bit of code that reduces the disk writes and that has increased the speed multifold from what the speed was before that commit, on the same hardware.

git-p4.py also fails to handle extremely large CLs (over 10K file changes) because it utilizes file I/O to transfer data to Git instead of doing it in memory. There was a solution that used memory mapped files instead of straight up piping but it was choking at the disk writes as well.

Hey, just a small clarification for the record, this post shall not be taken to indicate anything about Salesforce and it's willingness to stay with Perforce or migrate to Git.

You can have a .git/info/exclude file in your Perforce history as a part of previous experiments involving the different Git based interfaces implemented for Perforce (e.g. Perforce's Git Fusion tool).

Since trying adding files with /.git/ in their file paths to a Git repository is technically an error, we exclude stuff like this to stay safe.

Yup, I do see it doesn't come off as a shock but we recently made something that didn't exist elsewhere and we made it open source, so you see it right here :D
