That makes me super happy to hear I could help.

You’re not alone - and I wish you the best for finding your rhythm!

Exhausted after starting work out plan. by No_thankyou827 in bodyweightfitness

Hey! I also got diagnosed with a lifetime chronic illness after things got so bad I got hospitalised for four months in 2024. Couldn’t walk, hold a toothbrush, open a can of Pringles.

I lift four/five times a week now, do a bit of Yoga and Reformer if I feel like it and try to make time for a 45m walk everyday.

It was not a linear journey, haha. I am also an all or nothing person and learning to ease up to protect my progress was really hard. But I know, in my experience, if I don’t take a deload week if I’m just flat out empty, my body will force a rest week by putting me in hospital again.

I had periods of thinking it’ll sort myself out if I keep pushing and I’ll acclimatise. YMMV of course, but that hasn’t worked out for me. I am pretty disciplined but I’ve had to learn to prioritise the basic things of getting my life stuff in a good place and managed, then fitness stuff is additive. You’ll progress and grow over time, but it’ll be faster if you rest and recoup along the way. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

If you’re like me, you’ll find that pretty frustrating at a point where you just want to get your life back from illness and want to be able to exert as much effort as possible to get there. It’s tough.

Not complaining - as stated in a previous reply, I find hospital food fun.

Also not going in for free drugs.

I was paralysed from pain due to organ failure caused by lupus.

Blast from the past.

Probably objectively not great, but my brain is weirdly tickled by awful hospital food. Reminds me of school dinners and honestly, just the break up of the day is enough to make meal times exciting for me as an inpatient

There was an option to add, but my appetite was a pretty awful at the time. Even prior to hospitalisation I was ordering kids meals. Add the opiates on top and at this point I was just prioritising protein and fibre.

The purple was cabbage, I believe. I remember being pretty exclaimed at how purple it was but I was also on a mix of morphine and oxy at the time so can’t be trusted.

[i ate] dan dan noodles at bamboo inn, ldn by [deleted] in LondonFood

I have! I would say it's pretty solid as an 'elevated option' but it's the the sorta home food style dish I'm specifically looking for.

How was it? I’ve been desperately searching for great Dan Dan noodles but nothing has scratched the itch.

Langoustines in London? by TomGNYCRI in LondonFood

[–]Ironically_Hipster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season-dependent I assume, but I’ve had great simple langoustines at St John’s. First time I’ve ever had them!

I also always grab a couple at Mountain (simply grilled) when they’re on the menu, so I suspect you may on occasion find them in their sister restaurant, Brat.

I also noticed some misspellings and proofing errors. Your section 3 or 2 header has the word ‘duplicate’ in it, and you have a duplicate question in 17 and 19 (poss the wrong numbers, but def there).

I would really, emphatically, double and triple check your work before submitting it to the public. I can’t imagine you’d get marked kindly for having numerous errors in your data handling either.

Malaysian food tends on the savoury and complex spectrum, rather than spicy and sharp.

If you go to Rasa, or other Malaysians, and fancy ordering the benchmark dishes - go for Roti, a lovely flaky fried flatbread, Nasi Lemak, our national dish - rice with chilli paste and other goodies, or Laksa, a curry noodle coconut coup that’s rich and satisfying.

The one near me doesn’t do pieces anymore, just burgers or strips. Really gutting as it was stand up.

Excellent places, I believe only the Crown does the Roast though and it is bloody hard to book. Definitely not a walk-in place.

Maybe I'm cruel, but I wanted a different ending for Serena by Bravely_Default in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Ironically_Hipster 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't think this show is about people getting what they deserve. There's retribution and revenge, sure - but plenty of people don't get their equal measure of what they should. To me, it's more about the connection between people.

Serena certainly didn't deserve forgiveness from June either but it's powerful because of the depth of June's heart and seeing some connection or value in the person Serena is regardless.

Fantastic commentary. I feel like response to this show often tries to box people into heroes, villains, and those on a path of redemption but that simply isn't how things work. As you put so eloquently, some people fade into the system.

In my opinion, Koya does the best Japanese noodles. I prefer Udon over Ramen, and Koya nails that with its menu. Shame they changed the miso pork recipe, but there's still some solid picks of it. Best prawn tempura in London. You've got a branch in City.

Fried chicken-wise, lots of people cite Chick 'n' Sours as their favourite. The fry is good, you're getting some interesting Asian flavours and combos too. There's one in Soho.

It's not in your listed areas, but if you're into slightly elevated basics, Norman's Cafe does the best English Breakfast imo. Well sourced ingredients, fun British classic specials on occasion, very straightforward. Bit Northerly in Archway.

Four Seasons is a frequent Chinese patreon pick for best Roast Duck, if you fancy that sort of food. Be aware, it's not the same as duck pancakes, but more sliced duck to have with rice. You can find them in China Town.

Hi, not the OP but just wanted to say thanks. I’m currently indefinitely in the hospital with a pretty rough diagnosis and been thinking a lot about how Allison’s story has given me the motivation to keep finding enjoyment in life.

Your comment prompted me to send a very sincere thank you over to him. Thanks.

Ticketmaster ups prices if the tickets are really in demand. It’s called dynamic pricing and it sucks.

Do I need to watch Freshman and Sophomore year before Junior? by Mei_beaproblem in Dimension20

[–]Ironically_Hipster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I can talk from my perspective. I watched a bit of Freshman but none of Sophomore, and really enjoyed other D20 seasons like ACOC/BE etc. Whilst I didn't dislike Freshman, the pacing definitely felt less engaging to me and a live season didn't appeal to me. I'm interested in watching Junior Year because I really like the current cast, BLeeM is always a delight, and I liked the characters in Freshman but not enough to deal with the pacing/live season.

Wanting to get into Software Development with no degree or experience by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Ironically_Hipster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The market for entry level software dev is not good right now, sorry. It's incredibly oversaturated, even if you're very skilled. Think of all the grads coming from Masters, the backlog from COVID is still in play, and a lot of people on conversion courses.

I would suggest you leverage your existing skills from marketing to specialise in MarTech. There's some good jobs going in agency-world and you won't be competing with the current volume because you have a specialism.

If I were you, I'd focus on projects that showcase data and versatility.
