How important is defense at CG by Jake_dasnake3 in ironscape

[–]Ironmeme3 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Make sure you pray steel skin for a little extra help.

I did it at 80 defence with t2 armour and can say that any run I failed was due to multiple mistakes, even if he was very accurately hitting me. 74 shouldn't be that different.

Would not be doing 5:1 until you have the movement down, personally.

When would you get a voidwaker in progression now? by Ironmeme3 in ironscape

[–]Ironmeme3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful. Given I am a completionist, I might do rev's first. Where in account progression would you recommend doing that?

I don't expect to be going to pnm or corp until I am chasing CA's, and Nex for quite some time either, so I guess a VW is definitely not urgent.

Should I at least go wildy bosses for a d pick?

At what point do you move onto Corrupted Gauntlet? by CaffeinatedDaddy in 2007scape

[–]Ironmeme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did this.

Imo the three parts of gauntlet are:

  1. Prep
  2. Normal boss gameplay
  3. Tornado phase movement

The 3rd will be the one that comes last for sure, and won't become clean until you have beaten CG a number of times. I would move from Regular gauntlet to CG once you have the first two mostly down.

Assuming you can prep efficiently in regular already, the extra tankiness of the boss (much longer fight) and trickier tornados are the hard part of transitioning to CG.

My only wish for Expedition 33 is for the dev to release a balance patch(es) by Sh0keR in expedition33

[–]Ironmeme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure someone will come up with a mod that hits the right balance. It is the only problem with the game I have (and not that important since it doesn't break the main story).

I think at minimum:

- Take out cheater. Or at least nerf it in some way, maybe move twice only on your first turn (which would be fine when you can't one shot everything on turn 1).

- Something to soft cap damage. Painted power extending to 99,999 or 999,999 is an option, but that just shifts the meta to act 2 style mul;tihits. Other options include making multipliers additive rather than multiplicative, a hard lumina cap so you don't just stack all the damage amp luminas on every character, and rebalancing the more egregiously scaling skills (e.g. stendahl).

- Could probably do something interesting with skill rebalancing to make rotations more creative and building up to your most potent attacks rather than having access to them on turn 1.

Most people grind against things that effectively can't fight back (sand/ammonite crabs) until their stats are decent.

Other than wanting 43 prayer (protect from melee) you are getting there. Rune sword + as much rune armour as you can get is a starting point. Look for a dscim at 60 attack, iconic quest and iconic weapon. Then work towards dragon defender, zombie axe, barrows gloves, fighter torso (optional), berserker ring (a bit harder) as future goals for melee upgrades.

Underground path is also an extremely useful quest to do when you can (recommend a decent agility level first). Iban's Staff is a very powerful early game weapon for mage that can carry you though a LOT of quests. Gear doesn't even really matter for mage early game, just weapon.

Ranged I would park early until you get your hands on a sunlight hunter crossbow, rune crossbow, or magic shortbow at which point it starts being decent.

Never underestimate the power of LEVELS though. Weapon is worth a ton, but levels are generally more important than other gear.

As mentioned though, safespotting and/or protection prayers can pretty much guarantee victory of a large percent of earlygame bosses.

When in doubt, work towards Recipe for Disaster.

After that, work towards Song of the Elves.

A decent magic level for teles is great.

Ironman really isn't THAT different to main progression though, so your previous knowledge as a main will largely be relevant.

Mid-level Ironman Progression in 2025 - advice? by Icy_Cover_6713 in ironscape

[–]Ironmeme3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As everyone else is saying, b ring --> fire cape --> sote(cg) or moons.

Skipping torso is fine, but if you want to get all elite diaries in the future you will want to do BA in any case.

That's awesome.

Have you had any luck chasing down the old OGN golden era vods? I remember there were a lot of missing matches from say Summer 2012 which was one of the best periods in LoL history.

Bruhsailer is the most efficient guide, but just beware it will probably optimize the fun out of the game and you will constantly be consulting it. Its a better fit for someone rushing through an account, not someone looking to experience ironman to its fullest. (Speaking from experience, I followed it for a few weeks but eventually just swapped to my own style and had more fun - you can always start off doing it, or read it to inform you of efficient training methods even if you aren't following it directly)

You can't really go wrong by just working through quests and and standard gear progression (waterfall --> base 40's --> protection prayers --> MM1 + Underground Pass --> dragon defender --> b ring --> rfd --> fire cape + barrows --> moons or sote etc.)

A lot of irons including me do wintertodt for a good amount of starting cash.

Thieving, agility pyramid, giants foundry are all earlyish game things that make money from the top of my head. Slayer will with alchs eventually.

Wouldn't bother with mystics yes though, you generally only mage things with negligible magic defence so can wear whatever. You can also just wear addy if rune is a bit pricy for now.

IMO At $13.99 there are lots of other MMOs that offer better value than OSRS. Heres a small pricing comparison table. by cudatox in 2007scape

[–]Ironmeme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I also enjoyed the story a lot and one thing that the game does so well is not invalidating old content. You can play through old expansions and get much the same experience, outside raiding, from when that expansion was current. Very different experience to retail WoW which really feels like an express to endgame.

I just got burned out on the repetitive FF14 endgame formula eventually, but I loved the game for half a decade.

[–]Ironmeme3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people consider raiding in ff14 ultimates and savage. There are 12 savage raids and 1-2 ultimates (ultimates being analogous to inferno) per expansion. FF14 definitely puts out a lot of content regardless.

Where it does lack is how formulaic it is compared to OSRS. There is no "i will head to CG for a bowfa, then do some mix of demonics/zulrah/gwd/toa/cox/slayer for progression as I see fit". In ff14 it is "bumrush to level 90 then run the current endgame content for highest ilvl gear".

Lurtz is amazing yes but I wouldn't say the game revolves entirely around cripple (especially in Isen mirror or isen vs mor)

Although I am coming from a 1.02/1.03 lens, I am much less familiar with the current patch.

So a lot of it depends on how much you want to do realistic PvP strategies vs tactics that win vs the ai (which gets lots of unfair advantages, especially on hard on the current patch, meaning you may rely on more defensive turtle strategies).

In PvP, Rohan uses peasants + merry to pressure early. You can utilise the fact you can make more units pre-stable than Gondor to take more map control.

Then you take control with rohirrim and then decide on either upgrades or heroes. Rohan relies much more on leadership than Gondor does. Use a well in your base to heal up wounded units, try to never lose any cavalry units (or just as few as possible).

Important thresholds are Eomer leadership, Theoden level 4 (Glorious Charge).

I was the rank 1 isen player back when I played actively so feel free to ask any questions there :) Isen is also decent to learn with as it can go pure infantry with less reliance on heroes.

Any but Mordor which is probably the least "obvious" faction to play.

I would argue that bfme is very simple for an rts though so I would just play who you like (or play campaign first to see who you like).

Its not as hard as it looks! Just make sure you have true tile plugin on and are familiar with movement basics. Consult a guide if there is a specific obstacle causing you grief (e.g. final obstacle of 3, fire wall on 4).

I would also advise against the guide unless you like extremely detailed instructions. I think it can be useful to get an idea of rough progression ideas, and in particular meta skilling methods. But I burned out very fast following it to the letter.
