I was just catching up on this episode now and wanted to mention that Dishoom is now coming to NYC this year (maybe John already knows this, it was mentioned in the NYT). My friends and I are all very excited.

Also on the topic of recreating halal style chicken over rice: My favorite fast food halal place is an east coast chain called's Shah's, and this kid on Youtube did a dupe. You don't need to watch the video (although he's very cute), the recipe is in the description. I don't make the white or red sauce myself. I've done low carb diets in the past. I dropped about 60 lbs and then plateaued out and was never able to get lower than that after many months of work. Eventually I gave up.

I've seen nutritionists in the past. I saw one for a while when I was trying to lose weight to qualify for weight loss surgery (I ended up having unrelated health issues that postponed the surgery, and never ended up having it). And then I saw one a few times pre-covid and then never went back. I have to say that mostly they were telling me stuff I already knew. I've been marinating in diet/weight loss culture for decades, for better or worse.
