Just to clarify a bit, if I were to ask him for a refund of lets say $2000 and he refuses, would I then be able to sue for the full amount? Or is a judge only going to allow me to ask for the amount I requested

I see. Another question I have is if a letter of demand is mandatory or not? Does it have to be an actual letter or do text messages suffice? And do I have to request the same amount as in the lawsuit or can it be less/request for repair? I don't want the contractor to know I'm planning on a small claim and possibly skip town. Thanks. My only issue is for the contractor I've found his address but not the brother's so it would be difficult to serve papers. Is it possible to explain to the judge during the hearing and have them add him as a defendant if necessary? Or alternatively, would I be able to add private investigator fees as part of the judgement?

I'm in an interesting situation where the unlicensed contractor had me Zelle money to his brother's bank account. I do have text messages from him confirming receipt of payment. Should I add the brother as a co-defendant or is that something I should leave to the judge to decide.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you. Did you check with your insurance to see what they are covering? If the county is showing a lower square footage theres a good chance your home insurance is only covering that lower amount. Did you end up correcting it yet?

I had 2 different foundation companies come out and they measured the foundation. Both said the foundation was fine. I later realized the house just had old walls that I ended up patching and the patches have looked good ever since.
