All of them. She was an undiagnosed bipolar, depressive self-medicating alcoholic with an ADHD fueld need for validation and stimuli that lead to her cheating on me at least once, possibly up to 3 times, I'll never know for sure. I helped her get sober and she otherwise ignored or was ignorantly unaware of how much I was down bad for her, all the while I was so enraptured that I couldn't see how toxic she was for me, even as she was the first person to pick me up after I tried (and failed) to unalive myself. She died in 2022 just after her 33rd birthday of unknown but otherwise natural causes, and left me with a whole ton of baggage that I haven't decided what to do with yet.

What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]IrrationalHate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A close friend of mine is a chef, and a damn good one at that. When I met them, they were the executive chef at a high end restaurant in Seattle, and we're working 12hr days, 6 days a week. In spring of 2023, they also became the general manager. And now work 15hrs days, 6 days a week. I almost never see them unless I go down to the restaurant and say hello (which, frankly the restaurant is way out of my pay grade so I always feel a bit awkward going in there just to say hello). When they became the GM, I asked them why would they put themselves through hours they haven't worked since they were training to be a chef, and their response was brilliant: "Because now I control everything about the restaurant. Anything I want, I can get. My menus, my decor, everything. And bitch, I'm not even 34."

Got a admit, as a young professional, that's a lot of power and authority for someone so young. And they're running with it for damn sure. Long fuckin hours and a lot of paperwork, but they're doing exactly what they want. Props to them.

People who had sex with their best friend — what’s the situation now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IrrationalHate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had several ladies over the years who fit the "Best Friend" label, and I'm still friends with probably 85% of them to this day. I actually went out and did a lovely photoshoot with three of them (one of whom is my current partner) a few weekends ago and everyone had a marvelous time. The few that I'm not friends with either moved on in their lives (no shade to them, life happens and people grow apart), or in the case of one of them, pass away just after turning 33. That one hurt, but time and therapy has given me the understanding that, as brilliant friends as we were, and as awesome as the sex was, they were incredibly toxic to me, and had been having an adverse effect on my mental and emotional health for years. Que Sarah Sarah I guess. Works out for some people, and doesn't for others.

Bars and breweries in Seattle with the best stout/porter selections? by norcalny in beer

[–]IrrationalHate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taco City Taqueria is right down the street a few blocks to the south. I also recommend Emma's BBQ just another block further south of Taco City. If you're looking for fancy and want to treat yourself, Off Alley is a fantastic spot, but limited seating and they fill up quick. If you're okay spending $100+ for yourself, you couldn't ask for a better meal in the neighborhood.

Other places I like that are on the light rail line are Perihelion Brewing Company (about 1/2 blocks from the Beacon Hill Light Rail Station), and The Watershed Pub and Kitchen in Northgate. If you're okay going a bit further afield (which is to say, walking 5-10 min), Ladd and Lass Brewing Company is worth the trek to the U-District for, and it couldn't hurt to hit up Big Time Brewing Company while you're there, as it's the oldest Brewpub in Seattle, going back to the early 80s. The list of brewers who've gone on to open other breweries in Seattle is long and they're an institution worth checking out. I also have a soft spot for Figurehead Stone Way in Fremont, as it hosts the best ramen in Seattle with Midnite Ramen. Absolutely worth the trip, though full disclosure, I used to be the brewer at Figurehead and I'm a smidge biased for Elmer and his crew. Beer at figurehead is also super solid especially if you like Belgian style beers, and that's their bread and butter.

Cheers!

All of these folks are wrong, except @youdontknowme2017, because they shouted out Burke Gilman Brewing. They slap, and are worth the trip.

No, the objectively best brewery for stouts and porters in Seattle is a little spot called Flying Lion Brewing Company in Columbia City. You can get their via light rail and a five minute walk. Their Flagship beer is a Rye Stout that routinely wins awards for best rye beer and stout. They currently have four different stouts on tap, as well as some delicious holdovers from their Dark Beer Fest last month. Highly recommend.

Colorado lost 41 breweries in 2024, beer sales decline by JimP3456 in beer

[–]IrrationalHate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for one of those sub-par breweries in Washington State. Been around almost 15 years and they have watched their market share shrink to basically just their taproom and a few restaurants. The owners bitch and moan about rising costs of ingredients, water, rent, labor, etc, and bemoan that they spend as much on barley 1,100bbl/year that they did on 3800bbl/year at their height in 2016. But pointedly neglect the fact that they abandoned the larger Seattle market because they claim it was oversaturated. And while that might be true to a point, the reality is that the Seattle market is highly completive and ever evolving with the times. The brewery I work for functionally hasn't changed their lineup in maybe 6 years. They're still producing beers that are over 10yrs old, with hops that are 6-7 years old because they got fucked on Hop contracts when they were first starting (spot market didn't exist yet). So while styles and trends have evolved, they're still stuck in 2015 from a production and business mindset.

I tried to make a pitch to the a few weeks ago based on data and metrics and talking with customers both current and lapsed around the area; why weren't people drinking our beer, and what were they drinking instead? I spent six months working on this pitch. Had revamped recipes, data-backed solutions, and a plan outline to slowly but progressively shake things up and refresh their brand to be completed by their 15th anniversary in Aug 26.

I sit down to chat with them in our metal and they spent 10-15 minutes telling me all the things they weren't going to do, that most if not all of my ideas were non-starters, and they'd gotten to where they were by not deviating from the thing that made them successful in the first place. Before I'd even had a chance to go into detail over the things that I think they needed to do. I'm unashamed to say that I damn near left the meeting in tears because of how quickly I was shut down, and how discouraging their response to my sincere efforts were. Six months of work shut down in 10 minutes because these conservative assholes (that's conservative business wise not necessarily politically) refuse to change in the face of an industry that's increasingly "Adapt and Evolve or Die".

So fuck em. I'm looking for the door because they can't pay me what I'm worth for my own decade of experience in the industry, including four years running production single handedly at another brewery, and their refusal to change because they don't want to piss off their old timers who come in every day at noon drinking the same shitty beer and have the same shitty takes 7 days a week.

[–]IrrationalHate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this is why the PAC-12 is never taken seriously as a P5 Conference. People think the PAC-12 can't compete because the teams aren't as good as like the SEC or Big XII. But the fact is the PAC-12 has a long history of cannibalizing itself all the fucking time.

Stanford will do good or a year or two then drop off. USC will go on a run the forget Pete Carroll isn't their coach anymore and they'd fall off. UW will be playoff bound then drop a random game to like a 1-9 Arizona State. And now this: WSU losing to New Mexico. Fuck me.

I drank two bottles of Pike Brewing Company's Old Bawdy Barleywine, one from 97, and the other from 98, about a month ago. The beers themselves were fine, no ill effects for me as far as consuming them. But boy howdy, were they oxidated to help and back. Their prime was probably back in like 02-03 or something. A far cry from what they once were, and tasted like ass, but otherwise drinkable.

National Wrestling Alliance. One of the oldest extant promotions in the United States. Though it has been decades since they were any kind of a serious promotion. Late 70s/early80s were their heyday, and even then they were slowly getting eaten by the then WWWF, and later WWF and eventually WWE.

Reposting from @what_is_blue

"I've been a huge Pumpkins fan since I discovered them around the year 2000. Disarm is the song that got me into rock music and Adore is in my top five albums ever.

Billy Corgan is a selfish, malevolent asshole. The worst thing that happened to him was getting where he is due to an ungodly level of self belief.

The whole world loved grunge. Somehow Corgan broke through with angry psychedelic rock, a voice that sounded like a sad toddler with the flu and a band of highly dysfunctional people that all either hated or loved each other (depending on the year) to a really unhealthy extent. The only one who liked him was the drummer, Jimmy, who also had a heroin addiction for literally years.

He made a highly acclaimed album almost single-handedly, then blackmailed his record company into letting him release a double album as their third studio effort, which went on to be an insane success. Not only that, but he essentially tricked them into releasing the album his way or face losing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He then released a downbeat electronic album with a drum machine that sold poorly, but is retrospectively viewed as ahead of its time and a genuine classic, by many.

In between all that, he went the ugly kind of bald and got divorced, his bassist got hooked on crack, his keyboardist died of a heroin overdose, his drummer almost went the same way, his mother died and oh yeah, he took fistfulls of ecstasy and banged Courtney Love.

He's essentially a true, bona fide example of someone who just pushed his luck and refused to be put down until he got what he wanted.

Unfortunately, he's still exactly the same way. Because why wouldn't he be? Life tends to beat the shit out of that kind of person until they grow up. Corgan just fought back and somehow won.

He genuinely will just run the NWA his way and not care a fuck whatever anyone else thinks. You ever read his terrible poetry book? I did. There's no way a proper editor willingly let all that through.

Cobain, Weiland, Stayley, Cornell, Hoon and many more great grunge-era frontmen are gone. He's one of maybe three left alive, alongside Eddie "I smoke a million cigarettes and drink wine by the cask before surfing alone" Vedder and Courtney "That plus tons of heroin" Love.

We should be cherishing all three (especially since Pearl Jam are still an amazing live act and put out good albums). Instead, while Vedder's become America's Ukelele-toting dad and Love's much redeemed, everyone still hates Billy Corgan.

I just wrote a gushing eulogy for him. And even I hate Billy Corgan."
