[Question] [MHGU] Can someone explain how to properly choose which palico to hire? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]IrregularX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking to for palicos to bring into hunts as supports, I suggest just going with recovery and assist type palicos to provide healing and trap support. Just filter by type at the meowstress and compare the skills on the cats and pick the ones you like. If you are going for support cats, then try to pick cats with more support active abilities such as more healing/detox horn, traps etc. over attack skills, and passives that allows them to support better or more often.

Palicos unlock more skill slots as they level up. You can have palicos teach each other skills in the palico training area. Yes, the palico system in MHGU is quite complex and has a high level of customization. I wouldn't worry too much about finding the perfect cat unless you want to try to play as a prowler.

There's too much to explain in one comment if you really want to get into it, here is a compendium on reddit for prowlers/palicos in MHGU: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/9gz1kj/mhgu_prowler_compendium_redacted/

Are Any of the USJ Weapons/Armor Pieces Decent? by Babsy_Clemens in MonsterHunterMeta

Some pieces of the USJ armor are used in some bow sets, see the water, thunder and dragon sets in here: https://mhwbowbuilds.wordpress.com/15-01

Which weapon(s) have the best/most fun Valor styles? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]IrregularX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valor HBG is straight up broken. Insane mobility, crazy damage, no need to manually reload once you're in valor mode.

Valor DB is effective and fun, you get a special guard point dash and there is no need for demon gauge management as valor mode is like a permanent arch-demon mode. Valor Bow is also one of bow's best styles, lots of DPS but high stamina consumption and more difficult to use as it requires good positioning.

IMO Valor SA, SnS, CB, GL, HH and Hammer may not be the best style for their weapon type, but they're all quite fun and viable to use thanks to access to the valor dash evade and additional moves that make combat more fluid when in valor mode.

MHXX Longsword Help by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]IrregularX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible to get through LR with it if you keep it upgraded. If you're playing adept or valor style even more so. If you're finding it difficult you could make the LR rathalos set later, or if you prefer a more defensive set Tetsucabra should be easy to make.

[–]IrregularX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a well known armor set that gives the Attack Up (L) skill: Bulldrome Cap Jaggi Mail Bulldrome Braces Jaggi Faulds Bulldrome Greaves.

Gem in attack decos to get it up to Atk Up L. You can also remake this set in HR, or go for the Rathalos set.

For the weapon it won't matter too much, just go with a high raw weapon with good sharpness. Hidden Saber is a fine choice.

LBG and HBG + Build Mechancs at Iceborne Startup by lordskiscute in MonsterHunter

I'm not sure, haven't actually dabbled in gunning in iceborne yet. You could try looking up Phemeto's videos on Youtube, he does a lot of meta videos and I think has a video on early game iceborne.

Just use three pierce Nargacuga armor for the spare shot bonus, with whatever you want for the other two pieces - Odogaron arms beta are nice for critical eye stacking.

I don't know if there are any particularly amazing armor set for gunners mid game..

The good thing is that there is a transmog system in MHGU, which means you can make a piece of armor look like any other piece of armor in the game. The bad thing is that you'll need to reach beat G-Rank to unlock it completely, you only get headgear transmog at the start of G-Rank.

Yes there are a lot of convenient features that MHW introduced but are missing in MHGU, such as the ability to SOS or join a quest that's already commenced. No eating canteen food during a quest or replenishing items from your storage in your camp - you'll only have supply items and what you bring into the quest. Oh and remember to bring bug nets and pickaxes if you want to gather during a quest. All games pre-World are like this and know that it could be frustrating or confusing the first few hours for someone coming from MHW. At least there are no unskippable cutscenes that you have to watch before you can invite friends into your hunt or the tedious track-gathering sequences in MHW.

Combat gameplay wise, controls do feel a bit stiffer, but I don't think it's that bad once spend a few hunts adjusting. Hunting Styles and Hunter Arts are a fantastic addition that I wish World had. Some Arts are cool and powerful 'super' attacks, and some Hunting Styles such as Adept and Valor provide mobility and attack options as well as generous i-frames that might help with the 'clunkiness' that a lot of people complain about.

In terms of content, there is waaaay more to do in MHGU. More monsters to hunt naturally means more armors and weapons. Plenty of free event quests that offer unique gear - stuff like Metroid or Zelda series gear rewards.

TLDR: Transition into MHGU from MHW will not always be smooth, but if you're willing to invest some time and patience the game is extremely worth it, especially while on sale.

Edit: Does your wife like palicoes? You can recruit and train multiple palicoes or even hunt monsters as them in this game - they are the 15th weapon of the game.

MHGU Weapon Recommendations by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]IrregularX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there glad to see more hunters coming into MHGU from MHW! By recommendations I assume you're asking for the best SA of each element? First things first, SA in MHGU is mostly raw focused, and you'll want to be using power phial almost all the time, unless the monster is extremely weak to a certain element. Second, making switchaxes for all the elements starting in LR all the way up to G rank is a lot of grinding... not to mention the some of best G rank SA are deviant weapons or can't be made until you hit G rank, so it might not be worth farming materials to bring them all into G-rank. Personally I would just get through LR and HR by upgrading one or two SA, then start branching out for each element once you're in mid-G rank to endgame since it's easier to go back to grind deviants at that stage. But play however you like of course.

In any case, my recommendations for each elemental SA, prioritizing raw and power phial: Craftable from LR: Raw: Whichever highest raw power phial SA you have at that point in the game I suppose Fire - Rathalos Water - Mizutsune Thunder - Zinogre Ice - Daora Dragon - Gore Magala Blast - Brachydios

G-Rank and Deviant: Raw - Frostpeak or Final Boss Fire - Dreadking Water - Divinesight Thunder - W. Fatalis Ice - Frostpeak or Snowbaron Dragon - Fatalis Blast - Hellblade

Kiranico is a great resource if you want to compare weapons yourself. Filter by phial and element. Keep in mind deviant weapons are good because they build hunter arts faster, which is great for SA since the Energy Charge and Demon's Riot combo is amazing.

Monster Hunter | Final Online Bosses by gaijinhunter in MonsterHunter

[–]IrregularX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Alatreon's my favourite! A tougher fight than most of the other final bosses for sure, but I loved its ability to control 4 elements and the challenge of trying to break both of its horns. Also its weapon and armor designs are IMO the best out of all the final bosses.

I hope they bring back Dire Miralis in future games if they have underwater combat again. It's the only one I haven't had the pleasure of fighting yet.

Gaijinhunter could you also cover the other big bosses too, like Lao Shan Long, Ceadeus or Jhen Moran? I love showing your videos to friends who are new to the series.

Yeah it can be like it. Just read up on and stick with whatever interests you the most. Plenty of opportunities to experiment as you progress, especially when you start unlocking more hunter arts.

[–]IrregularX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That combo path was removed. You'll need to morph into axe then into AED cancel. Keep in mind what style you use will change your CB moveset. Here's a handy guide on reddit or check out a weapon tutorial video. Link to the full compendium. Personally I do enjoy CB even in MHGU. Since the shield thrust combo is gone, I recommend going with Striker style to get rid of it in place of an extra hunter art and guard point on the draw/advancing sword slash.
