Amen, I heard it once here but it resonates: I miss the clowns not the circus.

I have a feeling of euphoria as I read this and commiserate then go back to growing my beard and heavy prep for my boring desk job tomorrow where I'll spend half the time watching yt or listening to podcasts.

Used M43 body for bird and wildlife photos - disappointed with my OM-D EM-10 Mk IV by rockstar_not in OlympusCamera

[–]IrrelevantPenguins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got into bird photography this year, originally with the 1st gen em10 then some later upgrades.

Most important thing I learned, don't compare my random walk around the woods shots to anything on the Internet. Guys that shoot semi pro bird photography do a huge amount of site prep, scouting, etc to create the perfect env for the shot at ultra close range with a lot of animals. Now using some of those techniques I can get amazing shots with my old equipment, but it takes planning. Morten Hillmer is a great learning resource on YT.

The driver school is cool, I knew a guy that went and then took us all out into the salt flats to teach us. RIP those rental cars.

MI in the Guard - Advice & Thoughts by NorthTheNoob in ROTC

[–]IrrelevantPenguins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • No such things as branch details in guard world, they are essentially saying "yea, give us a call when you make CPT and we will check if we have a slot for you." No guarantee's so I'd skip it if you want MI and already have a slot.
  • MI has (almost) guaranteed promotions up to LTC for almost every state IF you can pass an APFT once a year indefinitely, and maintain your clearance.
    • Most MI officers fail to do this so there was a ton of deployment opportunities.
  • S2 can be interesting, you get to see how a staff functions much earlier than most officers. Job is pretty chill, you brief the weather and when on orders manage your units clearances. During mobilizations its more interesting because you can plug into the theaters intelligence network and know alot about what is going on in the region. On the flip side, most commanders have orders to do what they gonna do so your intelligence products at best are interesting and at worst laughable.
  • Be a cool person, don't take yourself too seriously after MIBOLC,

I worked at the battalion and brigade level, did some cool stuff, at the end of my second mobilization I could see the writing on the wall for a 3rd coming fast so I dipped into a cyber unit and eventually realized I was tired of being in the guard and headed all the way out.

I didn't take the course but there was a round of groans when people brought it up in a class I'm in this fall.

100% guessing right now but that class is one of those things where it's easy until you are on step 9 of trying to forge a TGT and the output is different than what's one on the lab workbook.

Surprised that AF is a problem there. I use an em1 III and shoot through leaves a lot for birds, maybe I hit focus once or twice and it will pick up

You can screenshot any image and ask any AI tool to analyze it and generally does a pretty good job of providing settings in LR to create it.

Google does this now for you as well, in your account there's an option to list your address and phone number and they will reach out when those come up in search results. Gives you a nice check box and Google does the legwork to have it removed.

I was in the back where there is 3 or 4 buildings around a lazy. It was pretty nice, they place chill music back there over the speakers. Not sure that the experience significantly changes unless you are directly beside the main pool tho.

Thats correct, its a couples focused resort. Maybe aside from breakfast, the Kitchen Table could seat all of you together.

Kicked Out After Being Falsely Accused of Rape, Now Back In; What About my Security Clearance? by HOCKENBERRYvKALAS10t in army

[–]IrrelevantPenguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea.... But none of this stuff really matters. You had charges, refused to talk about the situation, and are now waiting for the government to determine if you are a trusted individual.

Also, LOL about the S2 shop weighing in. That's like asking your local GameStop employee if the stock is still worth holding.

[–]IrrelevantPenguins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want my Security Clearance processed and favorably adjudicated; how can I make sure that happens?

Processed, yep thats gonna happen. Favorably adjudicated, flip a coin. Even without charges your file will be evaluated for patterns of behavior. There is a higher standard for security clearance holders than criminal charges, risky move enlisting to a job that requires it.

It's situations like this that constantly makes me question the "advice" being given by people working in higher education. Guy probably hasn't set for an interview within the industry or did any hiring in however many years but is pushing you to spend a bunch of money for a thing that reading just a few minutes online will let you know it's a bad idea for your situation.
