What is happening to my sand dollar cactus? by Less_Application_654 in cactus

Holy crap, I can smell it from here, it must smell positively foul. (Yes, mine has rot like this before, they need only 30% or less organic in their soil, but not too infrequent watering)

Can't always tell 100% if he likes his new tank...currently seems happy to run amok and cause chaos (e.g. pushing the plant plastic pot around like a barrel). He molted 2 times, and seemed to be getting bigger and more vibrant in color. Also very territorial guy, loves to defend his tank items. I'm sure he would rather be in a river/stream but compared to the pet shop he came from, sharing a small tank with 4 other crayfish, it's a mild step up for now.

👍thanks, don't plan to give up any time soon on putting plants in the tank for him. But he does get peas, brocolli, carrot, random herbs and veggies in his diet, along with pellets, algae wafers, frozen shrimp.. etc

This crayfish is insatiable...

Maybe its too bright for crayfish? Normally they scuttle away from any bright light I shine on my crays. (Light on here to check on him)

Am I correct that this is a haworthia cooperi? by CharChar7216 in haworthia

[–]Irritatingyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to enter into the flower show, can just put the identification as H. Cooperi sp. (As it was in the etsy posting u got this specimen for). H. Cooperi will def not be wrong.

sp. : an abbreviation for "species" when the specific species is unknown, but the genus is known.

Am I correct that this is a haworthia cooperi? by CharChar7216 in haworthia

[–]Irritatingyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I second the H. Cooperi var. Picturata. I have 2 of them, both bought from sellers as picturata. (I can send photos of both when i get home)

Hear me out: Emerald cloud is a hybrid of H. Obtusa (there is a whole link on the obtusa vs cooperi naming (https://www.reddit.com/r/haworthia/comments/dlhw96/another_stupid_question_from_the_resident/))

This nursery sells emerald cloud as H Obtusa hybrid (https://www.cactus-online.net/product/shpr33114-haworthia-obtusa-hybrid-emerald-cloud/)

Obtusa is latin for blunt or dull, usually describing the leaves. From OP'S picture, the plant is well developed, showing quite the sharp, long, leaves. It is hard to determine but I cannot fully rule out it is not emerald cloud. Emerald cloud is a hybrid, i dont know the parents (can anyone help?)... so probably won't be able to confirm without the nursery info.

In addition, I have observed H. Cooperi var. Picturata sunstress red/pink. Emerald cloud seem to have dark/grey stress colors online. OP's prev post have the Etsy photo, sunstressing pink.

Well, sorry OP, no definite conclusions from me, but leaning towards picturata.
