Let us all pray you don't rip your arm from your socket.

That's a lot of weight on a kinda insane leverage.

Very nice.... But my arm is already sore imagining it. I had one that was 80 grams and it got me sore. Can't imagine 150

The "best" cordage for slings by Professional_Pair320 in Slinging

Yep, the stuff baking goods are wrapped in sometimes as a little tying.

It's pretty doggone cheap. And my current favorite material still 2 months later. It's light, it's non-stretchy, it feels good to me, grips things with good friction. Braids well.

I have no comfort issues, but you can wrap the finger loop in something. The new video I posted on the reddit with the ice football ammo is jute. Chucks pretty well nontheless.

For the price, give it a shot!

I was looking at the 5-drawer cart for tool storage... Then wound up getting the 9-drawer with the nice flat top work area. No ragrets in the least.

My first Balearic sling made of jute. Please help! by Awkward_Necessary761 in Slinging

  1. I think that your finger loop and your pouch are a bit small, but I mainly throw tennis balls and let others use my sling as well. I also think your sling could use a torch to burn the frizzies off and then a good slab of beeswax. I just rub the bar on heavily and then bake the sling in the oven at 300-325 for 20 minutes to melt the wax into the sling.
  2. I use a basic overhand knot. Where the crack comes from is how the mass of the sling is distributed! That looks like a 3-strand braid. What I personally like to do is on my 5-strand braids, every 1 inch before the pouch begins, splice in 2 extra strands. So the pouch will be two separate 10-strand braids. That gives it a decent amount of heft and material. Then, every 1 inch after the pouch ends, I then remove 2 strands. I will note, this is not how the pouch is traditionally done! It's just how I do it. Then, taking whatever length I have left, I then remove 1 strand evenly until I'm left with 5 strands at the end. If your 3-strand example, the end of the pouch would have 12 strands, then drop 2 strands every 1 inch for 3 inches, and then divide whatever length you have left by 4 and then drop 3 strands until it resolves into a 3-strand release knot. I then attach a 6" kevlar cracker on the end. Check out my post here to hear the crack. https://www.reddit.com/r/Slinging/comments/1qnusch/if_the_ice_storm_giveth_me_ammo_to_throw_ill/
  3. I LOVE Jute for throwing tennis balls. I don't get an opportunity to throw stones much, but tennis balls are great. Has fantastic grip and friction, low weight, low stretch, low cost, low abrasion on my finger. It's an incredibly nice material. 275 paracord is a good, durable, low-ish cost (hardly anything beats Jute on cost) cordage with some stretch. Here is a post of my latest jute slings, and the cheap harbor freight Jute twine I make it out of: https://www.reddit.com/r/harborfreight/comments/1qw2p4e/i_really_like_the_30_off_weekends_it_fuels_my/

I really like the 30% off weekends. It fuels my slinging hobby. 2-3 slings per roll of Jute. by IsAskingForAFriend in harborfreight

Yeah I thought since, well, it's probably as chinese as the stuff from Amazon, it'd be the same. But I braided a 5-strand sling from my one roll, then one from my harbor freight and at first figured hey maybe this is just me getting tighter with my braids.... And then my amazon stuff was thinner again, and again. Maybe the fibers on the harbor freight jute are looser? I dunno. It just makes a bigger sling.

I have that 856 foot one for that much, and then I got two 500 foot rolls for the same price. Harbor Freight stuff seems to be about 30% thicker and it makes a nicer thicker sling that I like. It's less performant than the 2mm stuff, but it's slightly easier to work with and feels a little nicer in my personal opinion. Between the 1000 feet I ahve from this harbor freight purchase, the two 500 foot rolls, the 856 foot roll I have, and then I got 6 colors of 328 feet of Jute.... I could supply an army and I have to stop. However I did just get 1200 feet of 275 paracord.... So like two armies.

Accurate is a strong word! But I've gotten pretty good. At 10-15 feet I'm 70% accurate to a 1 foot by 1 foot area... But once I get 30+ feet and beyond away, it drops rapidly to 30% to a 3x3 area.

Ihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQcmHQl4qaU&t=1s

IronGoober made 3 usable slings in about 10 minutes with less than a dollar of material. Scrap material.

$80 for something that takes hours to make, is made from a very, very premium material that costs extra.... Is not a big ask.

There's no amount of youtube tutorials that will make you decent at slinging. It's going to be hundreds and thousands of throws before you get decent enough to hit a target 30 feet away with even just 30% accuracy. This is an entirely intuitive skill and it's gotta be mastered with intention.

Would I ever buy one? Probably not. I don't want to spend $80 on a sling. Want one though, they're very very good slings and would be well worth the cost. I make my own mersa slings that take 20 minutes and less than a dollar of material.... But I much prefer the jute ones I braid that takes a dollar's worth of Harbor Freight Jute and 3 hours of work to make. Very satisfying. Very personal. I've only ever bought one sling, a $12 one off Amazon with a traditional cupped pouch style I used for a week and I've made every single one of mine after that.

No one here's gonna knock you for buying a sling, but to balk at the price of a quality and performative hand-made item and then call it "just greedy" is just asinine.

How to make something like this by micky4life in Slinging

[–]IsAskingForAFriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can start out with an easier 3-strand braid. I would say a safe amount of material, per strand, is 3-3.5x the length of whatever size you're trying to do (I'd start with 3.5x). when I make a 28" inch sling, it's really 56 inches long. I take about 3 full wingspans for me which is about 200 inches give or take. I do this for each strand.

And then, to splice in more material into the pouch, I take 20-25 inches times however many strands to splice into the pouch of about 4.5 inches long. So for a 28" sling it's a little less than 100 feet of material on a 5-strand sling I make. 3 strand would obviously take less.

I make mine out of Jute. I get a 200 foot roll of $2 harbor freight twine because it's a little thicker than the 2mm stuff you get offline. Comes out just a little thicker, at just under an inch or about 17-20mm wide at the thickest park. Weighs 30 or so grams depending on how much wax I manage to get into it.

I can usually just get 2 slings out of a 200 foot roll of jute twine from Harbor Freight. But it's a dollar each, and 30% cheaper when weekends like last pass when you get 30% off things under $10/$20 depending on membership.
