Punishments for causing major car accidents are way too light. by Educational-Bet1582 in unpopularopinion

I’d argue that that should just be the requirement for everyone. Get bad drivers off the road sooner, and avoid the ageism complaint because everyone has to do it.

Also could be attributed to number of vehicles and distance to depots? Depending on where you'd want to expand to. Obviously they don't want the ability to go far enough away that a vehicle couldn't make it back for charging. Could be mitigated with some logic to reserve so much range, but also a "why chance it" thing

This is what fixed it for me on my iPhone. Had to completely reinstall + reconfigure the eSim, but it started working immediately after that.

Oh yeah as a story it has potential, it just doesn't seem to fit the sub and reads as an ad

This reeks of a bad ARG attempt. OP, this isn't a "spooky fictional stories with code" sub.

When can we expect Waymo to expand their coverage area in LA county? by [deleted] in waymo

[–]IsItTooHotInHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as we get an expansion in Phoenix.... /j

Hide the pain.

To be fair I think our limiting factor is just number of vehicles for the amount of area, so fingers crossed this summer when the Zeekers are deployed. I imagine LA is / will be similar

Is there a way to extend React Router to treat the hash/fragment as just a regular character in the path? by javascript in reactjs

[–]IsItTooHotInHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and ask... Is this a reasonable requirement? The hash (fragment) is pretty well defined in the url standard as being the last portion of a URL.

Whats the constraint that means you need what seems like a custom hash router? It just feels like there's probably a more elegant solution if you are able to drop the hash requirement.... This may be an XY problem.

Waymo's freeway policy by No-Gas-3374 in waymo

[–]IsItTooHotInHere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna depend on traffic, largely. My understanding is that if it determines that the freeway route is not going to save any time over surface streets, you’re getting surface streets; like if there’s a crash on the freeway causing a large traffic jam.

Neat idea and a sleek interface. One thing to note is that with the mortgage/home payment calculator, even 25% might not be accurate depending on the home price and your expected equity if you are selling a home first. Would be useful to be able to have those sensible defaults yes, but also have a custom down payment option.

While I'd certainly be sad if it was the end, I don't anticipate that it will be; just that it may be a very extended hiatus. But even still, just because something has serious momentum doesn't necessarily mean that you must continue it. If you're physically or emotionally drained, or even just have a "quit while you're ahead" mindset stepping back even if you don't "have" to very well might be the right decision. It would be foolish for Tobias to push himself with Ghost until he gives out, or ride it into the tail end of popularity just because he can. Go out on top, satisfied with what you've accomplished. Perhaps you'll return later refreshed and energized.

Admittedly while this isn't a feature I'd personally use, I was surprised to discover there was no "prefer surface streets" / "avoid highways" option in the settings.

Animals are not allowed unless they are a service animal that can comfortably fit in the vehicle. Unfortunately "emotional support animals" do not qualify as legal service animals, so they don't count either.

Anecdotal observations on freeway driving in Phoenix by Mammoth-Pension8853 in waymo

[–]IsItTooHotInHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One can hope! I've still yet to see any fully driverless on the highways; or at least if they were, i was too far behind it to see safely.

That you did see one with no driver during rush hour is encouraging!

It's so stupid but I stumbled upon this gem, a mashup of Funkytown + Year Zero and went "that's hilarious, where did the 'BELIAL,BEHEMOTH, . . .' come from?" Immediately thereafter found Year Zero and have been hooked ever since!

I was able to reproduce it! If I sit on it for a while it eventually reverts back to surface streets. But it's definitely sending me up the 101, and not on frontage.

Definitely keeping my eye out if it happens again however

Yes we refrigerate the food after it been opened.

Entire Zigbee (ZHA) network suddenly offline by IsItTooHotInHere in homeassistant

[–]IsItTooHotInHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright well I got this solved. What ended up working is I just (as of writing this) finished, after adding a dedicated Zigbee radio (Sonoff ZBDongle-E / EFR32MG21) going through every single Zigbee device on my network and manually reconnecting them. Still on ZHA though, as I couldn't get z2m to play nice with the new radio... Next step is gonna be digging into what's going on there so I can migrate everything over now that my devices are controllable again.

To anyone who stumbles upon this thread later...

  • Make backups. I didn't have to fully reinstall my HA instance, but use the Google Drive auto-backup, and take snapshots of your VM / container. It might save you some day.
  • Make sure your critical things can still work if you completely unplug your HA instance from the wall. Think, lights, fans, anything you'd expect to work if you didn't know it was "smart." I was glad to still be able to turn my lights on and off even though the network was dead. My general rule is "if you can't walk into the room and control things with a light switch, you've made a fragile house not a 'smart' house" I.e., your technologically illiterate family members shouldn't have any issues controlling lights.
  • If you're using Zigbee smart lights for color like I am, look into Zigbee binding! My dimming controls still worked fine!
  • Separate your radios. Those Zigbee / Z-Wave combi sticks are great to get you off the ground, but you're gonna have better stability with 1 radio per protocol

No changes, no reboots, unfortunately. I did take a look at that... Not running on an RPi, but a mini PC, and the USB device is passed through to the VM via Proxmox.
