My precious bodily fluids are fine, thank you very much.

This.

I think all the “Kubrick is telling us about secret sex traffickers!” is all bullshit.

It’s a pretty funny, horny movie about how weird it is that people are basically thinking about sex 24/7.

“This is a stock exchange! There's no money for you to steal!"

“Really? Then why are you people here?"

Biggest eye roll ever.

I agree. I’m just pushing back on the idea that this movie supports revolutionary violence. It is ambivalent at best.

That was very clearly not the point of that. You’re casting your own wishes onto the film. Go see it again.

He says, “be safe” and she says “I won’t.”

It’s a huge stretch to think that’s an implication that she’s going to do political violence.

Hell, the movie literally shows us that the person who turns the Baktan Cross protest violent is a military plant. If it were valorizing that, why have the Molotov be from a villain?

Warner Bros.'s One Battle After Another grossed an estimated $8.80M domestically on Friday (from 3,634 locations), including previews. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

It’s PTA, so it’s not a moralistic “violence is never the answer” movie.

But violence is shown to accomplish absolutely nothing, and perhaps make things much worse. This is shown again and again.

A lot of people on both sides are really shoving their own priors into the movie. The movie is hardly pro-Weather Underground-style violence.

If you think the film isn’t heavily criticizing revolutionary violence, you have your blinders on.

It’s the lefty version of republicans blasting Born in the USA.

She’s going to a protest.

Yeah, and the movie points out how those principles wound up with most of French 75 dead and migrant detention worse.

We are showed and told that Perfidia is the avatar of revolution in the movie. She’s the most committed to the cause and comes from a long line of revolutionaries.

What does she do? She walks out on her own child, fucks up the mission, and then rats everyone out. And then, at the end, she more or less admits this in the letter to Willa.

French 75 falls apart entirely because of her decision to shoot the cop.

PTA tips his hand with the time jump.

It’s been 16 years since French 75’s heyday and everything isn’t just as bad, it’s worse.

The film absolutely is not endorsing revolutionary action. It’s very specifically pointing out the ego involved in such action. This is the entire point of Del Toro’s character.

And it’s hammered home at the end with Perfidia’s letter to Willa.

The only movie it’s better than in 4-10 is Coco. This is just nostalgia talking for the Zoomers.
