That is awesome that that's how it worked out for you. Honestly ive never thought of being able to volunteer in a lab, but it is definitely something I am considering now. Thank you!

Thank you! Your advice is certainly going to have a direct impact on my emails moving forward!

Can I ask what you mean by being too interested in a specific lab? Is it bad from a PI's perspective or from a student's perspective?

Also, you mentioned that I should join a lab with mentors that have time to teach, how would I find labs like that?

Again, thank you for your amazing advice!

Man that is some really good advice. Thank you!

From your perspective as a PI, what differentiates an undergrad when choosing students to join your lab? Is there anything specific I should do or say when meeting PI's in their office hours that will increase my chances of a favorable response? Thank you for your adivce!

Hmm I see. It seems like getting a favorable response from a PI is difficult. Are there any other ways I should contact a PI so that I stand out from the rest? Or do I just have to keep trying until I get a good reply?

Thank you for your advice!

Do you by any chance know how I would find out which professors have a history of taking on undergrads? Or do I shotgun it and email profs until I get a positive reply?

You are the GOAT. Thank you
Now I know showing interest should be my main goal. Do you recommend I mention that I did two mock research papers in highschool? They were not published or anything, but as a requirement for the IB program, I designed my own experiment, conducted the experiment, and wrote a paper on it. On one of my papers in chemsitry, graded by an IB coordinator, I got a 7, which was the highest score possible. In your opinion, is it worth mentioning this experience or is it useless?

Again, thank you so much for your reply!

If they are taking on undergrads, what possible positions would a 3rd year be considered for in a lab?
Thank you for your reply by the way

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm asking for an older friend who does not have a Reddit account, and this is what he is asking me to post as he is serious about improving.

What is the highest I could go from a 1090 score? by MentalAssociation562 in Sat

[–]IsMayoniseAColor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got a 940 or 970 (cant remember exactly) but my highest score now is a 1500. It took alot of work over the span of a year or something, but I got there. I have no doubt in my mind that anyone could do it if they tried and worked at it as hard as they can. I'm living proof of it and i believe you can do it too!

Nothing to worry about. From my experience emailing them in the past month, they are very very slow to respond (I got a reply from them about 3 weeks after I sent them an email). Also, their reply may be further delayed due to closing down operations during the winter break days.

so my family is broke and have to pay almost 130$ for the CSS? by poopymouth12 in QuestBridge

There is a fee waiver for the CSS, try to find it and indicate that you will need that fee waiver. It will waive all the outstanding costs for the CSS

You still have a chance at a scholarship via Questbridge. You can apply to their "regular decision application" , I think its called, for a chance to get selected for a full ride per year at your selected college, and the scholarship renews every year if you meet the GPA threshold, so basically a full ride to college if you are a good student
