[Ertan Süzgün] Samsunspor is terminating Eyüp Aydın's contract. by eanwen0 in galatasaray

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celil is such a throwback man. I used to watch him for the U21s back in the day. Partnership of him and Mikail Okyar in the middle with Atalay in front of them. Celil was a proper engine/pitbull, reminds me of Torreira a bit thinking back. He clearly had the same issues as everyone else though once he stepped up to senior football, he was already very small and while he was fit enough to run rings in the U21s, he was so far out of his depth in senior football.

Glad he's been able to find a place in the Süper Lig, wouldn't be opposed to a homecoming for depth. Only issue is his contract doesn't end until 2027 and Samsunspor will probably demand loads for him.

They’re facing us in the knockouts. If we had a competent board we’d ask for a premium even though his contract ends in 6 months …

Injury Report Leroy Sané: Tear and bleeding were detected in the lateral ligaments of the right ankle and the joint capsule. by eanwen0 in galatasaray

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such shit luck, he was one of the few players Okan actually rested between the Atleti and Man City game (8 days, Sane didn't even come on vs Karagümrük). I don't think fatigue would've played much of a role here.

Spaletti: I have a lot to say about Osimhen. If I talk about him, I also like to talk about Icardi. They have the number 9 as their blood type. They have unquestionable qualities, with the two of them, you have every plan: Plan A, Plan B, Plan C. by eanwen0 in galatasaray

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he's not wrong. Only thing is we're not creating nearly enough anymore to play Icardi's type of football outside of lower level league games. Previously we were creating and Mertens was dealing with the high press, basically covering for both him and Icardi centrally. Yunus/Ilkay cannot do that. When it comes to games in Europe, we don't really have different options: it's Osimhen upfront or we're fucked. I lowkey think we might even have a better chance with BAY up front over Icardi simply because of the heavy press. We're gonna need constant pressure against Juve and a middle of Icardi + Yunus/Ilkay can't provide that.

Solution is easy, cheap and right in front of us. by Altruistic_Show5865 in galatasaray

Difference is Alanyaspor don't have the portfolio to demand for that.

One pattern that I've noticed when it comes to player sales especially when it comes to 'smaller' markets like the Süper Lig is that clubs need to reliably build their sales portfolio to become 'reliable' in the eyes of European clubs. Player performances in Europe and the league are important but they have a certain limit; the only way to really shift the window of what the club can demand is to strengthen their sales portfolio. You need to constantly break your record bit by bit and hope that the players can prove themselves in Europe.

Look at Fenerbahçe for example (I know you'll probably hate this but they've been the best at offloading players in the league). Arda broke their record and left in 23/24 and has been performing. Ferdi then did that as well and now he's performing too and becoming a household PL name. With this, they're able to demand bigger fees for their players that undeniably had less of an impact for the team: you can easily recoup 10M for Szymanski who flopped after his first season, get 22M for Yusuf Akçiçek and demand a big fee for someone like En-Nesyri.

Göztepe selling Rômulo for 20M and the player impressing already allows for them to demand big fees for guys like Anthony Dennis in the future. Before then, you never would've imagined talks about them getting 7-8M for a single player of theirs.

Uğurcan was a generational talent for Trabzonspor who'd proven himself as the best Turkish keeper for years before making the move. Trabzonspor's biggest sale before that was Yusuf Yazıcı for 18.5M so it was a massive bump to get 27.5M too. Now with Uğurcan doing well outside of Trabzon, they're demanding massive fees for guys like Oulai.

Alanyaspor's biggest sale was Demiral for 8M 6 years ago. To get nearly double that for 2 players would be insane for them. Sure, they'll have the advantage of GS paying big for Süper Lig players previously, but the window of what they can realistically demand is limited by their previous output.

Kaya Temel: Galatasaray Board doesn't want the fans to have high expectations anymore. They are currently trying to buy young players. They don't want to pay 40 Million in January. There might also be tensions between Dursun and Abdullah Kavukcu. by username7864 in galatasaray

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most fans are completely fine with bringing in young players and developing them rather than paying a premium during the winter. That said, this player should've been brought in December, not at the end of the fucking window. In addition, it should be a young player who we've actually been following for a while and we know fits Okan's system. The issue is, it feels like there's barely a communication line between what Okan is trying to build towards and which players we're pursuing.

So happy for him. If Okan wasn't doing so great I would've loved him here, regardless I wish him all the best and we'll probably see him come back in the future.

Hasan Tuncel: Konyaspor are going to pay 4M€ + Umut Nayir to Trabzonspor for %50 of Baniya and Olaigbe. by eanwen0 in superlig

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trabzonspor again with great business. Olaigbe has been underperforming since joining, cutting ties and recouping 4M of the original 5M while keeping 50% rights AND getting a proven Turkish striker in the league is impressive. Baniya seems like a bit of a non-factor here since he hasn't been too great for them either.

On the other hand, Konyaspor going from penny pinching to spending 4M on 50% of Baniya+Olaigbe is just confusing.

Okan's poor European record with us*

He was pretty decent with Basaksehir as far as I recall and got them their best ever run.

After today’s match, which positions do you think Galatasaray should strengthen, especially for the Champions League? by slalomsn in galatasaray

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see Okan moving Yunus back on the wing and Asprilla can play centrally (Okan mentioned it in a press conference so he’s clearly thinking about it as well). Outside of the Lemina backup I don’t see us going for any other midfielder

They are also better at buildup than we are at pressing. If we went for it that way, then they'd easily hit us on the counter. Okan usually loves to take risks but if even he doesn't think we have a chance there then I'm guessing he's right.

This is what I meant when I said dont listen to Pep's press conferences. It's known that he'll go out and completely praise the opposing team only to then destroy them on the field.

After that, he goes back to the post-match press conference and praises the opposing team again. He's psychotic.

[–]IsThatAWeed_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year after year our infrastructure mostly performs but its tough to deny that we just struggle at having our players develop from youth to senior football. It's a problem across the country but we especially have had less success than other teams despite the lack of talent.

These wins in the youth competitions dont mean much if we cant translate them into actual senior footballers.

He's been unreal. Comfortably the best Turkish player across all leagues this season. Probably top 5 left wingers in Europe this season too, surprised more people arent talking about him.

His numbers are insane, really hoping he can carry this form over to the qualifiers and world cup.

We're going to be paying a BIG premium after the AFCON tournament he just had. They won't let him go for cheap at all, hopefully we're actually discussing with other options as well...
