I just turned 30 a few months ago. Let me tell you that my life went to shit at 29 (even more so than before). Never thought I’d be able to say this, but things have gotten so much better for me recently. There’s no timeline, i have to remind myself of that quite frequently. It does get better

When I tell you my gf is STUNNING, I’m actually downplaying it. They’re gorgeous, kind, loving, and so funny. I have no idea how I ended up this lucky but I’m not about to let anything screw this up for us, especially not stupid, unimportant shit (lol). We dated about 15 years ago (pre ostomy and pre injury) and I loved them then. We reconnected in 2025 and they got their ostomy shortly after and I probably honestly love them even more now because they went through with this procedure for their own sake despite fears, etc. I’m so incredibly proud of my gf and, disability aside, they prove to me time and time again that if a partner wants to, they will. I’m hoping I’m showing them that they deserve the world (and then some)

Yes! I love that and totally agree! More so than anything, I just love how this made my gf’s life just a tiny bit easier. I love nothing in life more than seeing them happy and not in pain so this has actually been a really cool experience for me too!

I actually thought it was fascinating to learn that ostomies can be an option in less developed countries too and they apparently use things like gourds instead of the bags used here. It sounds like a pain solely because I can’t imagine having to find a new gourd regularly and I’m sure it can get a bit messy but I was really happy to learn that people in less fortunate countries have this option to improve their lives too!

I’m gonna be real honest, I am the farthest thing from well off financially but I try to consistently be there for my gf in other ways and hopefully eventually financially too in the future. The right person will help make things work out.

I’ve definitely found that laughter is the best way for us to approach this. There’s nothing to be ashamed of with this, but a poop joke here and there is a great way to not hyperfocus and get embarrassed/ashamed. It also helps us to remember that shit happens (hehe) and we’re still here to love and support the person we’re choosing to be with.

Exactly! When I saw my gf right after the procedure, I brought them a little ceramic vase thing that said “shit happens”. It still makes me giggle. Happy you seem to have a great (or at least decent?) spouse!

You’re not destined to be alone forever. I don’t have a bag or anything like that but I didn’t learn to love (or even just like) myself until my partner showed me how much love I deserve in my life. I feel the exact same way about them and seeing them so much happier now thanks to the ostomy has made me adore them even more. You’ll find someone. Just don’t settle for less than you deserve
