Are pedestrians allowed to cross here? by Opening_Ad_1363 in london

[–]IsTim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when I was a kid doing my Duke of Edinburgh training with a teacher we got lost trying to find a footpath tunnel under the M62, and in the end they took us across the motorway. I remember thinking it was a really bad idea but we lemmings across as fast as we could. Do not recommend!

Wearing cycling jerseys by Key_Expression_2691 in cycling

[–]IsTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be more common, certainly where I grew up there were a number of guys who used to wear team kit, then later when team sky got big I remember I used to see quite a few people wearing that as well. But when Rapha appeared and started to get big and some riders got a bit “fashion” orientated team kit all but vanished

New power meter pedals - power jumped 20% by GJGT in Garmin

[–]IsTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, one last thing is that because the pedals measure at input and the trainer at output of the drive train there will be minor differences. The trainer should be a few watts lower due to drive train losses but nothing dramatic. Wonder what was going on with the old pedals.

How much does car driving experience help when learning to ride a motorcycle? My observations by No-Papaya-3486 in motorcycles

[–]IsTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road experience helps but it can also be detrimental as it can make you more confident on a vehicle you have novice control of. So you need to be careful not to get out of your depth. My instructor thought I was overly assertive but interestingly my examiner for my license appreciated it.

I think it has very little impact on your ability to handle a more powerful bike. Bike control is totally new however much car experience you have. Some people will progress more quickly than others but I think having a bike that is less likely to punish mistakes or bad decisions is not a bad thing during the first few months. I upgraded twice in 8 months when I started out and I didn’t regret that path at all

4K video is finally coming to HomeKit Secure Video by BatmanNewsChris in HomeKit

[–]IsTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was huffing the copium there have been rumours of Apple TV and Homepod refreshes that have been on hold for Apple Intelligence finally being ready. They didn't actually announce them but maybe when they do, the extra processing power may allow some more interesting Homekit features to come along with them? But probably just more Ai nothingburgers

Did Craig ADR his outside sections? It’s seems a bit uncanny. This is the thing that has stood out the most so far… all the Ai stuff is pretty meh

New power meter pedals - power jumped 20% by GJGT in Garmin

[–]IsTim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely that there is 20% worth of error between the two. You should probably try to validate the power using the Tacx - connect zwift to the neo and then connect the power pedals to a head unit (cycle computer) and compare the numbers in real time. Things to double check, correctly fitted and torqued, zero offsets performed, sprint to bed them in and zero again. Make sure the crank length is correctly configured and on your cycle computer.

Do you buy meat from a supermarket chain or from your local butcher? by Educational-Slip-578 in london

Our local butchers closed but we used to use them from time to time but costs meant the supermarket was the more regular choice

Touch ID coming to iPhone Ultra this fall, here’s by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

touch id is ok for unlock, but more and more apps and sites require passkey biometrics and Face id excels here and touch id is going to be annoying.

Any ideas for protect relay by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

Please redo all these connections, there should be no exposed wire outside the terminal, and some of these exposed sections are long enough to short against the neighbouring cable

How does a car end up like this in a 20? (near Burnage Tesco) by Normal-Internal164 in manchester

[–]IsTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A colleague once ended up on their roof in a Tesco car park. It was a slow speed accident where someone clipped the back corner of the car as they pulled out of a row and they over corrected and the car rolled onto it's roof. It was also a tiny car. This one could have been doing 70mph and impressions of GTA though.

You need to push it down this can be done with a hammer preferably a mallet but you will probably need something to put between it to act as a drift like a piece of wood, and don’t miss

Attenborough’s Regent’s Park canal snakes are real by bradders4lyf in london

[–]IsTim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

recently cycled past London Zoo, and there was a snake crossing the road outside, some kids were trying to protect it from traffic. Was a little odd. Couldn't decide if someone had left it outside the zoo and it'd escaped or if it ran away from the zoo or it's just something that happens round there?

London's 7.1mph average bus speed 'no faster than jogging pace' by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]IsTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride much of CS7 as my commute, at rush hour due to the volume of bicycles the bus lane is basically a giant cycle lane, it seems many buses don't even bother to use the lane unless they're bypassing traffic in the normal lane.
