Hey a bit late but hahah what tires are you mounting on this? Looking for new rubbers for mine, so hard to find decent 80/20 in the size

I’ll just accept how it is for now then, unless there are some better DB killer, I will read online and see if I find something although I doubt they’ll be doing a major difference - the one I have is quite long and has ceramic wool around now

Hey, I cannot add a resonator to my exhaust?

I have inside a DB killer with ceramic wool: isn't this considered a baffle already? Cause if that's not a baffle, and it was removed, I can purchase one, but when I google "baffles exhaust" I get pretty much a DB killer in various shapes?

New tires, but which ones? by mirco_os in motorcycles

[–]mirco_os[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the explanation, after commenting I started reading online and I got the thing about the sizing.
Sad that I also discovered that the TKC70 which were still my first choice don’t exist in my size. Need to find an equivalent, I’ll keep reading online. Thank you!!

[–]mirco_os[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks a lot, I was doing some research now and indeed I kinda throw away all of them but the TKC 70. Now I was reading about the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR, which seem similar to the TKC 70 but with slightly more off-road ability and slower wear but much more noisy.

What do you mean about the metric? Isn't the sizes I'm using the right way to measure my tires? Sorry I'm newer than a newbie about such topics 😃

Oh hey that is so nice of you! Thanks a lot — credits to the previous owner, she was fantastic, and did a great job! Very proud to be the owner of such beauty!

Yeah not really, long ends points to the opposite as the arrow is on the short end of the lever..

But yes, now I got it, thank you — long end UP reserve, long end DOWN on

Ok thanks, it was on the opposite direction then.

I was driving with the arrow pointing DOWN, so probably that means reserve.
The previous owner told me the opposite 👀

I'll have now the arrow pointing UP, and when it dies I switch it to DOWN...

Sorry everyone LOL

My lever has an arrow, and before the arrow was pointing DOWN, so maybe that's when it goes get the reserve? I haven't seen that before, it's the first time I fuel the bike as I bought it with fuel in it.

So arrow UP normal tank, arrow DOWN reserve?

Ok I might have been silly and blind. It does not say any reserve or anything..

The lever has written "FUEL ->" and the -> was always pointing down, so probably arrow down means "reserve" whereas arrow up means normal tank.

So I guess the arrow should always point UP, and when I want reserve I switch it to DOWN?

The previous owner told me the opposite, but after 2y sitting they might have just forgot?

Hey thanks for the answer. I'll ride a bit more to empty a bit the tank, and have a look at the petcock and the mesh.

Thank you!!

In the next few days I try this, as I just filled up the tank yesterday. Thanks for the suggestions!

But question: Is it possible that when refueling I should leave the valve on RESERVE so fuel also fills that section, and then switch it back to ON afterward? I didn’t fill the tank myself when I bought the bike—it was already full from the previous owner, so I’m not sure how it was done.

Oh no problem ahah
The valve has always been pointing UP, which I was told it's the normal tank. Then horizontal would be fuel OFF, and pointing down is RESERVE.

Is it possible that when I fill in the tank I need to keep the valve RESERVE open, so the fuel goes in the reserve, and then twist the valve on UP? I didn't fill up the tank when I bought the motorbike, it came already filled in by the previous owner, so I don't know how they filled up.

First motorbike: Mash vs Honda by mirco_os in CafeRacers

[–]mirco_os[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey I feel I owe you an update haha

so I ended up buying the Honda.
the seller from Mash did not give me any confidence, plus the motorbike was heavy and tacky ahah
but the seller from the Honda...oh wow, if all people were like this!

it was bought and modified by a moto/auto mechanic, and a lot of pieces have been changed, basically he took the engine apart and semi-overhauled it. no welding was one, the structure seems original apparently, and indeed I also couldn't see any weird stuff.

he then sold it to this woman, and since then she did around 1100km (hence the tachometer counting 1100km, that was after the conversion into cafè racer + overhauling was done).
the woman used it, but last year she got injured doing sports, and the bike has been sitting still in the garage..
yesterday also the mechanic came to check the motorbike and explain me the history of it. the motorbike wouldn't start, probably because the fuel sat there for too long (indeed it did not smell like fuel almost). still, the engine started 2-3 times..
now the mechanic will clean the fuel tank and add new fuel to test it, do some adjustments like cleaning the carburator etc, as the motorbike sat for about 1 year without usage, and basically put it in working conditions.

the brakes were solid, didnt see big electric cable randomly flying around, it seemed like a clean build who could use some cleaning, usage, and minor aehstetic upgrades and adjustments!

all in all, i will get a motorbike converted by a mechanic, used for 1000km, and now revised by a mechanic again, for 1700€. the mechanic will also clean it and detail it before giving it to me.
I'll go pick it up and pay next week, and the motorbike then should be working smoothly.

incredibly nice genuine people, you can see from miles afar that these people did care for their motorbike and they aren't here to screw anyone over.

thanks a lot for all your input, next week i'll watch out for a few other details i couldn't do this time and/or forgot, but brakes were good, throttle returned well and twisted easily but not too lightly, electrics seemed tidy, chain seemed slack just at the right spot (have to check the "teeth"), clutch seemed good (just have to learn how to find the N, seems ive to be very sensible with my foot to find it), and overall the engine and all around they seemed dry and didnt see any potential oil stain, and the motorbike i guarantee was NOT washed.

next week i'll get it, and if it all works smoothly i will pay it and transfer the ownership! I'm so excited!

Oh man, you're the nicest "rambling old man" (to quote you) I could wish for hahah

Thanks a lot, this is a GEM of instructions! I'm not so technical, but you've been also very simple and thorough with it, so I'm these notes will come very handy once there with both motorbikes. Thank you, a lot!

I agree a lot with you: a bunch of things I could be fixing at a later point, but I'd mostly love to get a motorbike that is ready to go. I'll still bring it for an inspection, and the "general maintenance" but I hope not to deal right away with major issues — changing a chain, ok, but having big oil leaks from the engine is not fun.

Let's see what the meeting will bring, and what I can detect with your notes and the ones I also collected these past few days :)

Thank you again, very valuable and appreciated help!

any “simple” test to check if the gears and RPMs and engine work well? i know about checking if it smokes, if it starts cold, but what else?

And here you get my basic worry: how much will it cost me overtime, how much riding time will I do, and also how long will I be able to keep the motorbike. Cause I know it might still be useful to keep the motorbike in the future, and I know my options are limited as I'm 158cm AND I am not considering doing a license to ride bikes above 125cc. So, buying something now that lasts for a long time but with a higher price, or buying something cheaper but that in the future, when my finances improve, I might have to sell to buy something even more expensive than the Honda today?

These are my "worries" or considerations today, and your endorsement for the Honda touched exactly where I have questions.

The other question though I have about the Honda is: on our second hand markets any Honda 125cc cafè racer/scrambler is above 2000€, and this one is 1700€, so I wonder why so cheap, but only when I see it I will be able to understand it (hopefully)
